Keezer vs Kegerator
Keezer vs Kegerator
Before I build something, what are the pros and cons of keezers versus kegerators? Any lessons learned would be awesome.

Re: Keezer vs Kegerator
My keezer was built out of an older chest freezer. Way cheaper than buying a kegerator with with 3 taps. I'd be glad to share build details if you go that route

Re: Keezer vs Kegerator
Keezer us difficult to clean and you have to lift kegs to get them in.

Re: Keezer vs Kegerator
Refrigerators are self-dehumidifying, and won't accumulate moisture like a keezer will.
Re: Keezer vs Kegerator
I have had both, keezers hold more generally, they have more space, the hard part is lifting stuff in and out. If you build the keezer with a collar it can be returned to freezer duty in the future, free or cheap refrigerators can be had also. I have a beer fridge that I keep lots of overflow kegs in, but built a nice 2 tap kegerator my wife let upstairs. This has worked well for me, the fridge downstairs was free, and I spent what o save on a smaller nicer kegerator

Another plus for kegerator is that you can put the taps higher up. Not a bug deal but nice. I've had both and prefer kegerator.

I really like my kegerator. Not much needed to modify. Fridge door great for bottles. Tap handles at proper height with lines cold all the way to the tap.

Do you have your taps out the side or through the door?

Most I've seen are through the door but I don't suppose it matters much. If you have easy enough access the side might not be bad. With 4 lines on mine they sometimes get in the way if opening and closing the door.

No cooling lines in the door. Cooling lines in the side. Drilling a hole for a tapper and nipping a coolant line sends you to square zero.
Re: Keezer vs Kegerator
I have built both and I am currently using a Kegerator.
Here are the pros and cons in my Opinion:

Re: Keezer vs Kegerator
If using the little fridges 2-3 kegs capacity is accurate. Full size fridges can fit much more. 6 should be easy in many. I have a side by side and it could be modified to fit up to 8 kegs. I like the bottle space in mine so I run it with 4 kegs on the bottom and up to two 2.5 gallon kegs along with bottles on a shelf. I really like how it works. And it was free which is really awesome!aerizel wrote:I have built both and I am currently using a Kegerator.

Re: Keezer vs Kegerator
I'll second the humidity control problems in the keezer; I have two EVA-DRY 500 in my keezer and still have condensation.

Re: Keezer vs Kegerator
Matt is right about the upright capacity being pretty good when done right. This one has 8 taps and fits 3 more kegs for conditioning!
