We've talked about next year's National Homebrew Conference being in Minneapolis (June 15-17) and that we want to have a big Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts presence there. Well the first step to attending is that you need to be a member of the American Homebrewers Association. Annual dues for the AHA are $43 for individuals. Here's a link to a good way to sign up or renew:
https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/gift-membership/
Basically, you buy a membership gift card for $43 and you get a free gift ($20 value) as well. If you're gonna buy the membership anyway, you may as well get even more out of it. You an buy the card for yourself or another, and they can be used to renew too.
If anyone knows any other deals on AHA membership feel free to share them here.
If you want to enter the 2017 National Homebrew Competition, you also need to be a member. Registration for the competition runs January 30th through February 5th, which is coming up fast. Registration dates for the Conference have not been announced yet.

While we're on the topic of renewals - is the Club going to submit the Brew Your Own subscriptions again this year. I'm getting the "Last Chance" notices about my subscription coming due.

Re: AHA Membership deal
We will submit renewals. Information will be collected in January like in past years and we will place order. Haven't missed an issue in the past with similar timing.

Re: AHA Membership deal
Excellent.
For folks who haven't subscribed before, the Club gets a discount, so a good opportunity to check out one of the better publications on brewing, while saving some coin. You will also get Zymurgy magazine with your AHA membership, as well. Both subscriptions get you e-access to back issues, too.

Re: AHA Membership deal
Before I joined the club, I got a "gift" membership for splitting BYO with some dude in Colorado.. interestingly enough when that came due.. I got a "last issue" notice at the end of that run, too and was going to be pissed at you guys.. but it appears despite that I'm still getting issues.. or at least I received an e-mail link to this months electronic issue...so I wonder exactly how organized they are at BYO?!?
As for AHA deals there are always some available. I joined when they basically gave $20 worth of Simcoe and a couple of other hops away.. so the discount if you time it right is about $20. As for the magazines.. I actually sort of like Zymurgy better so far, but it's an expensive membership compared to many national clubs.. so.. BYO is cheaper and almost as good. But yeah.. this is the year to do it.

Re: AHA Membership deal
BYO sends final notices for about 9 months during your subscription. We do a renewal at the same time every year and you don't miss an issue. They won't let us add two years at a time as we wanted to add a cushion. You could add and extra year if you want but it would be at full price. You would have to do that on your own, separate from our annual order.

Re: AHA Membership deal
AHA is having a membership drive this month. If you sign up or renew your membership, you will get 4 oz of WAIMEA hops from BSG.
Use offer code WAIMEA to redeem.
I just renewed as my membership expires this month anyway.
REMEMBER - you must be an AHA member to attend the National Homebrewers Conference with the Club this June.
