Re: 10-Gallons of Porter
Just pitched the yeast and cleaning up. Interesting day...
Ran into BIY and picked up a Blichmann Auto Sparge, thought that would be useful for recirculating the mash and the sparge.
Next, the batteries for my drill were dead...so a delay in the crush until I was able to get on charged.
And then, 23 lb of grain and 8.6 gallons of water...crushed my burner. Fortunately, I was right there and was able to lift it off the burner, and put it on my jet burner. Through all of the excitement, nearly forgot to add the salts to the mash...and the acid to the mash water. Thank goodness for checklist.
Using the Bedford British WLP009, part of their platinum series...will not be available again, until next year. Might do some top cropping with this yeast.
If I am going to do 10 gallon batches, I either need to get better burners or go electric.
Some challenges, but all in all, a good day.
Going to order up some honey and make some mead/melomels.
