February 20th 2010 Beer Tasting at Millstream

Post by DaveCo »

All:

Here are the emails that I have had with Teresa. This is something that we must figure out very soon.

Teresa:

I still have a few questions.

1. Do you have an estimate to how many gallons of beer we should bring? (A 1/6 bbl of each beer. Do 6 different beers.)
2. What is the date in February for the event? (Feburary 20, 2010)
3. When do you need to know what beer we are bringing. (Around Jan 20th. I usually send my monthly emails out at the beginning of each month)

Thanks

Dave

David,

You guys brew whatever you want and I will pair some fancy cheeses up with them. I would like the beers to be a little higher proof and fancy/exotic to make the event something special, a beer you just can’t get anywhere or anytime. Last year we brewed a Czech pilsner, Belgian-style tripel, Sumatra English porter, Belgian quadruple, wheat wine, barleywine, wheat stout, saisonnier gran cru. Those were the ones Bill came up with. I would like to have 6 different beers for this year. I’m working with one of the businesses in town to get the cheeses brought in.

This is a nonprofit charity event since the beers are high proof we cannot sell them or make any money off the event. So I will take the cost of the cheese, glassware, band and any other expenses we have out of the admission income and give the rest to one of our favorite charities – CR Beer Nuts!

Last year we sold 55 tickets @ $30 each

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

First off, thanks DC for running with this.

I think I can contribute a keg as well, although I’m leaning at the moment towards a barley wine, I’m trying to think of something more quirky that goes with cheese now that the food pairing has changed out.

We should move the January Meeting up a week. This would place the meeting on Jan. 14, 2010 (regular meeting date is Jan. 21, Teresa, would like to know what beers are by Jan. 20).

We should make that a meeting to decide which 6 kegs should go to Millstream event. Since there are significant funds in this for the club, we should encourage all members to brew something to get into this. If we put 6 really good items up, there is a better chance that the event will continue for years to come (with Beer Nuts as sole beer provider), helping to provide the club a new revenue stream.

I do not recall tackling this topic at the November meeting. Lets get a rolling list of who is brewing something and what. We need to have six 5 gallon (1/6 barrel) kegs. I think they would prefer bigger and interesting beers. I am guessing we may have somebodies baltic porter. We need to have them a beer list by January 20th.

I will probably brew something but not sure what yet. I may do the Munich Amber Wit I just made, or a Dubbel. If you don't keg but what like to make something, I am sure myself or someone else in the club could lend a keg for the cause. So here is the start of the list.

I've got an Old English Ale in the primary right now that I brewed for it. Going to rack it into the secondary this weekend.

I will need to borrow a keg for it later.

I've got an RIS sitting on oak. It's a month or two old, and I would prefer to let it age a few more months, but will bring some for an offering.

Tony, let us know when you are done in the secondary and we will get it kegged.

If we get more than six kegs we can offer more or choose the six we want to send. This looks like a good start.

I've got a lonely, empty, keg that would love some of Tony's beer.

I have 2 in primaries right now.
No promises though, will give up for Feb 20th if they don't suck.

Dark Belgian Strong ale
Imerial IPA

Won't know about these until I get back from vacation as to whether they suck or not. With all the problems I had during the process my belief is that they will suck.

I have a Batch of "Killer Bee" going. If it turns out good I'll give up 5 gallons. If it turns out really good I'm keeping it though!
