November Meeting on the 19th at 7:00 PM
Hello Beer Nuts! Unless there is a major snow storm, the November 2009 meeting is on the 19th at 7:00 pm. It will be at my house (Matt Franklin) which is on the southeast side of Cedar Rapids between 1st Avenue and East Post Road. It is not your normal location. It is a curvy gravel drive so please drive slowly. Google and mapquest get you close.
The address is 1102 30th Street Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52403.
From 1st Ave, turn at the Walgreens on 29th Street heading East towards East Post Road. Stay on 29th Street as it curves and becomes 30th Street Drive. My house will be on your left (North side). If you get to Indian Hill Road or East Post Road you went too far.
From East Post Road, turn at the intersection with Lakeside Road and 30th Street Drive heading East on 30th Street Drive. My house will be on your right (North Side). If you get to 1st Avenue you went too far.
I have a shared driveway with 1100 30th Street Drive SE. There is a blue Linn County address sign with my house number on it on 30th Street Drive and a concrete sign at the base of my mailbox that says Franklins. Enter the driveway between the blue 1100 and 1102 signs. My neighbor has a large, silver and red grey hound bus in our shared driveway that is hard to miss on the left. My house is the second house. The road goes down a hill and turns sharply to the left and then back to the right.
Parking is tight, but we should be able to get three cars wide in front of the garage and the rest pull in on the left side perpendicular to the drive. I attached a picture as a guide. Try to keep it tight like a parking lot. If we run out of room you may have to park at the top of the hill on the side and in the street. A few cars should fit off the road by my mail box. Car pool if you can.
On a somewhat somber note, while I am certain this will not be the last opportunity to have a beer with Larry, this will be the last meeting for our president and my brewing buddy for about seven years, Larry Papkin. He is moving to Dallas in December. Let’s send him out with a bang. If you have been saving a special beer for a special reason, bring it as I think this qualifies.
If you have trouble finding the place call my cell at 654-5146. I look forward to seeing you there!

Pilsners, you a funny guy. I am sure Larry will chime in but let me take a crack at it. High gravity ales are a safe place to go.
Barleywines, Imperial Stouts, Double IPA's, big Belgians, Scotch Ale, and if it was aged in oak, even better. Avoid German beers and other lagers.

I was going to suggest English Bitters, and similar ales. Larry loves them almost as much as Olde English.

But I'm sure he would probably settle for some big Belgians or imp. IPA's.

It's really nice to know we all know Larry's likes and dis-likes so well. I suggest we have a 2 year old boxed white wine with a six of the new bud wheat and Fat Tire. I know he loves Fat Tire.
Seriously I am hoping we have a great turn out to wish our President for the last 3 years a fair well from the State of Iowa. I know he will no longer be attending our meetings but I know he will always keep an eye on our club to see how we're doing.
If you see other club members that have not attended in while, try to convince them to attend the next meeting.

I think I will bring my camera and tripod. Would be nice if we take a picture of the club members for Larry to take with him, to remind him of the scum he left behind and why he should never return to Iowa.
So people comb your hair for the meeting and no "old men have saggy ball's" T-shirts, it is only this once!

Why don't you go ahead and sanitize that camera before you bring it. I question what you might be photographing with a tripod.BrewHound wrote:I think I will bring my camera and tripod. LOL.. I just got back on my chair.
I think pictures would be good. As many events as we had the website is a little thin on photography

Maybe photographer should be an official position. Would be nice if it was combined with secretary which has so many candidates right now. Jeremy has a tripod so maybe he wins. Would be nice if we had a digital camera at all events and meetings and got the pictures on the website.
