Soda pop

Post by karl »

Hurrah! I've successfully made and dispensed my first batch of club soda (aka water carbonated under 60 psi of CO2).

I've also cobbled together enough fittings to adapt the soda wands to either MFL keg fittings or 1/4" tube.

I'm in the process of getting the soda wands cleaned and refurbished. It looks likely that I'll get all ten lines working.

All I need now is ten sets of keg disconnects, the CO2 manifolds and volunteers to provide soda for the festival.

If the cabinet approves, I'll go ahead and order two manifolds and ten pairs of keg disconnects.

I'll volunteer to make grape soda and agave-lime soda.

Now, how many of you cats will volunteer a blood orange soda?...

Karl, one tip. Keep track of what, especially if it happens to be root beer, is served on which lines. That shit will stay w/ the line!

While I can't make one (no way to force carb at that pressure), the Amoretti flavorings can be made available to anyone wanting to try their hand at it. At the standard concentrations, we won't likely be using it all up on our beer flavoring station at the Festival.

Sage advice on what sticks in the lines. I'm hoping that a short time with product in the lines and then a cleaning with caustic will minimize the effect.

BTW, the lines on these look brand-spanking new. I bet these old wands were refurbished and then never put back into service.

The lines are tiny, less than 1/8" diameter. But at 60 psi, that makes sense.

Tony, I can carb for you. I have a couple of regulators that go that high. And, of course, corny kegs were designed for that pressure.

Looks like parts will be about $175 for a 10 channel gas distro and keg fittings. Is this a "go?". I need to order soon to have in time to get everything set up.

We need a CO2 tank for the soda. Club has 4 now that will be in use for our 4 beer tap stations.

A dozen 16 oz bottles of Amaretti infusions made. Toying with maybe a couple more. Want to taste test them first, as they are "different."

Tried to mix things up to match different beer styles: Coffee, Coconut, Vanilla, and Hazelnut to go with Porters/Stouts. Fruit flavors (Strawberry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Grapefruit) to go with Wheats/Wits/Saisons. And a few interesting odds/ends to play around with, like Ginger.

Most of them also lend themselves well to soda additions. Should be fun.
