If anyone has water reports from the area Muni water supplies, please post them here for everyone's benefit. I've attached the latest report I got from Marion. Apparently they don't do these very often as it's from 2010. The General Manager says the values don't change much. The good news is that the report has everything already in mg/L (ppm) so no conversions are needed for most water calculators.
If people are interested, I may be able to do a tech meeting on water after the new year. We haven't done one in several years.
I'm making this topic sticky for easier reference. Please limit posts to just reports. Start a new thread if you have specific questions so others can quickly find the latest data here.
Not listed on the report:
Cl avg 2.5 -2.7 mg/l Total Chlorine
HCO3 332 mg/l
CO3 0.3 mg/l

Re: Water reports
Unfortunately, the Quality Report doesn't give us any of the ion concentrations that we need as brewers. I'll see if I can get them to send me a report. If someone else has gotten a recent one from them please post it.

Re: Water reports
Here is their contact information (the phone number is probably a general number):
Phone: 319-286-5900
watermail@cedar-rapids.org
I would e-mail them, but I would not be able to communicate the details that you might want to see.
Randy - do you want to reach out to them?

Re: Water reports
A few years back, I called the water dept. They put me in touch w/ one of their engineers who emailed me a spreadsheet w/ all the ion concentrations (and more!). There are quite a few industries in this town who care about such things. It should be pretty easy to get.
Re: Water reports
Here's the latest CR report. I should be on the monthly list now.
Notes: Some of the ions need to be converted to ppm and others calculated. I've provided those numbers below for easy reference.
NW Plant as an example
Ca 20.5 ppm
Mg 16.5 ppm
HCO3 85.1 ppm
CO3 0.8 ppm

Re: Water reports
Related but slightly off topic:
I've been going to RO base for brewing water. I've gotten it two different places in town and tested it with a basic TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter. Here are the results:
Mt. Vernon Rd HyVee: 178ppm
NewPioneer Co-Op: 1ppm
Granted, this was that filling station, on that day. Results can and probably do vary over the life of the filters, just a bit surprised the gap was that large.

Re: Water reports
Looks like the Mt Vernon one needs to be serviced. Most of the ones I see are set up my Culligan. You could call them if you care enough.
