CO2 Refill

Post by DrPaulsen »

Those of you who keg -- where do you get CO2 refills around town?

I discovered that one of my kegs has a small leak - several days after leaving it attached to the now-empty tank....

Thanks,
Lee

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Hawkeye Fire Extinguisher. Just west of Ralston P. It is tucked back in a corner and I don't remember the address. It is east of CP road and a block south of a park. If you drop off in the morning they can have a 5# filled by afternoon. I usually pick up next day.

I fill at Hawkeye Fire too. CR Weld on First Ave said they would not fill my 20# tank only do exchanges. They didn't seem to excited about helping me either.

Strange, I used to go to Hawkeye fire and they quit filling some time ago… now that was quite a while ago but that is when I started going to cr weld. Recently in the past year they got bought out by linn weld, so if you had problems before they might have a change in tune about the policy at the place across from hacienda. Frankly I just find it way more convienant to exchange my tank as I don’t have to make more than one trip and even if the tank is ugly who cares, I have it tucked away, and you never see it.

What is the cost? I pay about $20 to fill my 20# tank at Hawkeye. I don't mind trying CR Weld again, but that is much further from my house. Hawkeye is not far out of my way to and from work. I only fill my tank once every few years so location is not that important. I just had my tank filled last month so I know they still do them.

Hawkeye Fire also does hydro testing. I had a tank done. It was $40 for the test and fill on a 20lb.

I always exchange. And I go to Linn Weld.

As far as how they felt about it, well, it's a welding supply shop, so it was not all hugs and puppies. But they always get me a tank real quick, and take my money. No rainbow kisses though.

Other great thing about doing an exchange is your tank will keep inspection up to date.

Maybe I'll exchange when my inspection date gets close. Otherwise I like the tank I have.

What makes it better than any other tank?

Does it have one of those handles? I would like to keep one, if it had that. Is there any way to remove those from a tank? Otherwise, it's just a tank, I don't care what it looks like. Plus, I never have to worry about getting my tank certified.

Im with u why waste time making two trips when I can just exchange my tank for another. Unless your tank custom painted and is visible when being used. Mine is hidden..so as long as it works im good

When I went to CR weld a few years ago, they said they would not exchange or fill my 20# tank. Maybe they have changed and I will try again. Again, what is the cost? I will go with whichever is cheaper if there is a difference.

I don't want hugs and kisses, but when I ask a guy working for a place if they fill or exchange CO2 tanks and he says no and treats me like a dick for asking him to provide a service and take my money, not much I can do.
