November Beer Nuts Meeting

Post by Matt F »

Hello Beer Nuts! The next meeting is on November 15 at 7:00 pm. It will be at my house (Matt Franklin) which is on the southeast side of Cedar Rapids between 1st Avenue and East Post Road. It is not your normal location. Sometimes it feels like you are going to the bat cave when you head down my driveway. It is also a curvy gravel drive so please drive slowly. Google and mapquest get you close. No particular style for this month, but beers brought will be organized into an appropriate tasting order. I only have one beer on tap right now as several parties in September drained my supply.

The address is 1102 30th Street Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52403.

From 1st Ave, turn at the Walgreens on 29th Street heading East towards East Post Road. Stay on 29th Street Drive as it curves and becomes 30th Street Drive. My house will be on your left (North side). If you get to Indian Hill Road or East Post Road you went too far.

From East Post Road, turn at the intersection with Lakeside Road and 30th Street Drive heading East on 30th Street Drive. My house will be on your right (North Side). If you get to 1st Avenue you went to far.

I have a shared driveway with 1100 30th Street Drive SE. There is a blue Linn County address sign with my house number on it on 30th Street Drive. Enter the driveway between the blue 1100 and 1102 signs. My neighbor has a large, silver and red grey hound bus in our shared driveway that is hard to miss. My house is the second house. The road goes down a hill and turns sharply to the left and then back to the right. I will be outside for a bit to help direct parking for the first few cars. If you have trouble finding the place call my cell at 929-2013. I look forward to seeing you there!

I should be able to make this one, our dart league is supposed to be postponed. I may have a little something to bring. I brewed a mild ale for my party this past weekend and never got it ready in time. So it will be at least something to drink in addition to what the host has available.

Can super newbies come to met people and get some insight on this before they go out and buy all the goods to make their first batch?

Super newbies are definitely welcome! Come join us to try lots of different beers and talk to people about brewing. Maybe you can find out when someone is brewing soon so they can show you how they do it. It would be a great way for you to get some insight before you jump in with both feet / dig into the wallet for a bunch of equipment.

Matt-
thanks for hosting, I made it out without rolling my truck into the ravine!

Pete-
Thanks for bringing the mystery beers, I wish we had been able to approach them more delilberately as a group learning experience, but they were appreciated nonetheless.

The dialog from everyone was great, I think we have a lot of good ideas and passion that we can bring into focus and have a great club. The new member feedback is really good stuff, thanks to everyone for giving their input... and keep it coming!

Cheers

Tom: Great 1st Beer! Thanks for bringing that - I really thought it was good stuff. Far better than anything I made when I started...

It looks like everyone made it out OK. Good job parking. It seemed like we were able to squeeze in a lot of cars. Any more than that and I think we would have to park up on the street.

Thanks to Brian for taking on the patch order. They look pretty cool and I am looking forward to expanding my CR Beer Nuts wardrobe.

One final note, we need to contact Janis Gross with the AHA to get our club info updated on their website. It says you cannot do so online because it is under construction but to contact Janis. Here is what they have on the AHA website now.
