Nov 3 - AHA Learn to Homebrew Day 2018

Post by daryl »

Saturday Nov 3 is Learn to Homebrew Day....so save the date.

AHA sponsors this event as a way to spread the word of homebrewing beer. This will be our second consecutive event; I am sure the folks at NewBo will welcome us back this year.....but what if we put a little bit of a twist on this.

What if we combined this event with a Homebrew Equipment Swap meet? We have kicked this idea around before....this date might be as good as any, since some of us will be there anyway. And, it kind of fits with the theme....especially if there is some used equipment newbies could pick up on the cheap to get started. We could invite members of other clubs in the immediate area.

We would have to clear it with NewBo first, but thought I would put this out there for discussion.

Thoughts?

I did a search on Homebrew Swamp meet and found that our friends at C and S Brew Supply in Ankeny are holding a swap meet next month.

See https://candsbrewsupply.com/ and scroll down past the "Closed for NHC" announcement.

I e-mailed Sheri and asked if they had done this before and what their experience was with this type of event.

I may have some things to swap too.

And, I'm planning to have the Intro to All-Grain Brewing on the Cheap tech presentation ready for this event too.

Saturday Nov 3, 2018 is Learn to Homebrew Day. AHA sponsors/encourages this event as a way to spread the word of homebrewing beer.....and it is coming up quickly.

I am still working on a venue....but it is likely that we will be on the lower patio at Clock House. We will have access to one hose, for water, and one outside electrical outlet.

If at Clock House, they open at 11 AM....so we probably should start setting up between 10 AM and 10:30 AM and be ready to go (to receive folks) by 11 AM. Let's anticipate beginning to close up sometime after 3 PM...and try to be all packed up by 4 PM (and inside the pub for a beer).

Who is interested in transporting their equipment and putting on a demonstration of making Homebrew? If so, please respond to this post and we will begin to get this event organized.

Would like to get this setup ASAP if there is support; so that we can register the event with AHA.

We had some great demonstrations last year....two three tier systems, a brew in a bag unit, and a mead making demonstration. I'll bring the support materials we had leftover from last year.

Please post here ASAP if you would like to participate and how you would like to participate.

As discussed earlier, I am working on an introduction to all grain brewing and am planning on a static display of matching equipment. Working on the presentation now.

Bumping this post again for volunteers.

I am on the fence as to whether or not we follow through on this, we are a little thin on support.

We'll run from 11 AM until about 3 PM - we will end earlier if it rains - I do not plan on taking the trailer down and setting up the tent.

Karl is going to do a static set-up of equipment.

I'll plan on doing something...a cider kit, a beer kit, or maybe start a mead....minimal equipment, Brewing 101 is simple and we can show that.

Could use some donations of beer to pour on Saturday; I'll have one or two.

Are there any other folks that would like to brew or participate?

Please respond ASAP.

I was planning on attending with a brown ale and a few(3) bottles of a wheat, reserves are low unfortunately.
