General Meeting Minutes
2018 July 18

Meeting was called to order at 8:21 pm with eighteen members and three guests attending.

Old Business

Name Change and Rebranding
Logo completed: shows a mash paddle over the Cedar Rapids skyline. Logo patches and shirts are being investigated. Present idea for shirts is charcoal grey with single color logo in white.
Signs and banners have been ordered and have arrived.
Paperwork is slowly progressing with the office of the Iowa Secretary of State. Official document registering the change in name has been signed and sent. We are presently awaiting their response to submitted papers.
Embroidery patches are in the works and hopefully will be available prior to our festival

2018 Club Competitions
Watch the club forums for details and announcements.
July - Czech Pale Lager (3A) - turn-in was tonight - judging in the next few weeks
October - American Amber (19A)
A fifth competition for mead starting in 2019 will be held - style will be berry mead (M2B). Mad Monk McCusker will present a tech meeting discussing this in September

Wort Rally with Lion Bridge Brewing

3rd Place: Joel Null; 16A Sweet Stout, Midnight Latte

“Bunged” Competition
Theme for this year is no hops.
Turn-in for judging will be at the September General Meeting.
Feature and People’s Choice will be at the September Happy Hour at Lion Bridge Brewing.

CRBS Festival
New idea this year is to have a Pro-Am craft beer theme and invite our local craft breweries to participate with us. Theme is “Drink Local Beer Festival.” Plan on contacting Deb’s Brewtopia, Iowa Brewing Company, Singlespeed, Franklin Street, Clock House Brewing, Thew Brewing, Third Base, Lion Bridge Brewing, Quarter Barrel, Reunion, and Guildwurst. Did we also say Back Pocket and Big Grove? There’s been a positive response from many of the small craft breweries.
Glassware has been selected: Esquire thistle taster
Would like to get a local charity for this year’s festival?
Analog Vault has been hired to spin vintage vinyl for music this year.
After-festival activities will be at Lion Bridge Brewing this year. Those volunteering for working at the festival will get beer vouchers.
Port-a-potties have been ordered.
Need to find another policeman; the one scheduled needed to back out; posted at the police station
Cabinet agree that with savings on music, T-shirt printing, and other advertising that $750 can be spent on advertising via social media. Approximately $300 spent so far.
Decided to purchase a professional-grade pop-up tent

Technical/Educational Presentations
Schedule these for the fall after the summer rush and our festival.
Randy presented a meeting on water chemistry - June 11, 8:30 pm - Clock House Brewing
Karl volunteers to do an introduction to all-grain brewing on a budget at the “Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day” in November, likely at NewBo Market
Gluten Free Brewing -- Daryl McCall
Non-enzymatic mashing -- Josh Peanasky
Membership is invited to volunteer to present other topics of interest.
