2019 Quarterly Competition Styles/Results

Post by daryl »

Here are the competition styles for the 2019 Brewer of the Year competition, the turn-in dates, beer styles, and categories are:

January Membership Meeting - American Stout (20B)

April Membership Meeting - American Pale Ale (18B)

May Membership Meeting - Berry Mead (M2B)

July Membership Meeting - Fruit Beer (29A)
NOTE: Entry Instructions: The entrant must specify a base style, but the declared style does not have to be a Classic Style. The entrant must specify the type(s) of fruit used. Soured fruit beers that aren’t lambics should be entered in the American Wild Ale category and not 29A.

October Membership Meeting - Dunkelbock (6C)

Each entry must accompanied by a completed AHA/BJCP Bottle Identification Form. The essential data required are name, phone number, Email Address, Name of Beer, Category Entered, and Subcategory Entered. Additional information may be required as specified by the style (which is the case for a Winter Seasonal and other styles).

Please attach the AHA/BJCP Bottle Identification Form by wrapping the form around the bottle and securing it with a rubber band. A good practice is to place the form in a small ziplock bag prior to attaching it to the bottle, so that if the bottle sweats, it will not damage the form. Please DO NOT glue or tape the forms to your entries.

The 2015 BJCP Beer Style Guidelines can be found at:

The 2015 BJCP Mead Style Guidelines can be found at:
https://www.bjcp.org/docs/2015_Guidelines_Mead.pdf

An electronically editable Bottle ID form can be found at:
https://www.bjcp.org/docs/BJCP_BottleID.pdf
In the Fridge/On Tap: English Bitter, Schwarzbier, Cream Ale
In the keg: Wheat Beer, Russian Imperial Stout
In the bucket:
In the queue: Irish Red, American IPA

As some have heard, I will be heading off the club quarterly competition next year. With Daryl's help this should be a smooth transition. A couple things I'll be implementing this year are that I would like to have a set date for the judging, we know cabinet meetings are 2nd Thursday, general meetings are 3rd Thursday as well as bottle turn in. I'm thinking about have judging on the last Tuesday of turn-in month so...
Proposed judging dates 2019
January 29th American Stout
April 30th American Pale
May 28th Berry Mead
July 30th Fruit Beer
September BUNGED to be determined
October 29th Dunklebock
Locations will be announced closer to said dates.

Another thing is i have a dedicated beer fridge, bottles turned in at the meeting will be placed in my fridge when i get home and stay there until judging on the last Tuesday. Not sure if this matters to most BUT if you are bottle conditioning your brew and are banking on that time for the beer to properly carbonate, YOU WILL need to let me know so your entry is not put in the fridge with the rest of the entries, your beer will be otherwise flat/ lame.

If you have other suggestions feel free to message me with them.

Thanks to all for your participation.
