Cheap Pump

Hard to beat price on this pump with a stainless head. Reviews indicate it is a good quiet pump. If I were in the market for a pump I would check it out for the price. $90

Contemplating the move from my gravity fed system.
Anything that i should know about flow control, clogging from hop pellets, ect.? And trouble shooting?

Don't try to pump hard hop pellets, wait till they dissolve

Liquid comes in from bottom (or center), output goes up, so air can escape

Put the flow controller valve on the output side, optionally with a release valve to allow air to escape for priming the pump

I have never needed or thought I needed an air release valve. Let the fluid enter the pump head, have a valve on the output to throttle the output and hit the on switch.

Agreed. Air usually not an issue for me. I like to open the valve and hold the out put tube above the liquid level. Lower tubing until liquid about to come out, close valve on pump, hook up tube, turn on pump. Works great.

For pumps does anybody use cam locks or just hose barbs with the hoses squeezed on them?

I use camlocks and I like them.

Others use the tri-clamps and I have heard that they are easily cleaned....although I have not had cleaning issues with the camlocks.

If I did not have camlocks, I think I would consider investing in tri-clamps.

Most avoid using the barbs, but they are workable too.

I have used plastic QDs from Kent. Have had no issues in over 15 years of use. Super cheap and easy to use. I did just upgrade to all tri-clamps just because.

I highly recommend these twist and lock connectors.

Cool, have never seen these before. I'd consider them if I weren't all-in with the camlocks.

Another nice thing about the plastic Kent QDs is that they aren't going to burn your fingers.

The blichmann black plastic/stainless threaded connectors seem very handy, though not sure if they can be easily used in other products.

Going for a single tier AG system with one pump(for now) so just batch sparging, which is totally fine for me, my run tests right now only vary 4ish points percentage wise between fly and batch sparge.

Had a near miss the other day with the 3tier gravity system. Ladder and wet shoes, it's a no, time to keep my dad-bod ass on the ground where it belongs.

Amen to that, brother! I fell off a ladder 2 years ago. Trust me, it's not a fun thing to do!

Correct, cool to the touch and price point is tough to beat. I have never even replaced a gasket on these things. They were under $2 a piece when I bought mine a long time ago.
