Pearl Street Brewery, La Crosse WI

Old warehouse setting for the brewery with the tap room in the front over looking the set up. Wide variety of beers.

Interesting story behind this beer, wild grown hops found on local woods around Madison. First started as a seasonal brew(only so many they could harvest in the wild) now grown on a mass scale on the same farm bought almost exclusively by Pearl Street.

A definate must-have for any hophead. VERY complex aroma/ flavor, slighty resinous, some fruit(not citrus) and super floral. Clean bitterness that leaves the palette quickly. Not a lot of maltiness(slightly Bready) or sweetness but is balanced nicely. Doesn't linger and is easy drinking. Aroma is by far my favorite part of the beer as it changes as the beer warms and is hard to describe.

The locals were taking about a this brewery doing a local " Harvest Ale". Where anyone brings in hops that they have grown for exchange for a couple growlers of beer. They mix the hops and brew a one of a kind ipa with them. Some years are better than others of course but it sounded like a interesting idea.

One of my favorite breweries to visit when we're in Wisconsin. That linalool ipa is really good and the story behind it just makes it that much better.

A touch more history: the brewery started downtown la crosse in the basement of a bar on Pearl St (hence the name). As the story usually goes, they grew quickly and eventually needed a larger space. The warehouse they're in now is actually the original La Crosse Rubber Boot factory.
