Cedar Rapids Water Report?

Post by flightle »

Does anyone have access to a recent copy of the Cedar Rapids water report? I've seen the one on the water dept. website, but it's not as advanced as a brewer would need.

Anyone know the breakout of what minerals compose the hardness? Also what pH?

Thanks!

Here's one I got ~ a year ago. Just called the water department, and they sent it to me.

Here is a current one I got a couple weeks ago.

And some additional quantities:

Ca  averages 25 ppm
Carbonate--90 ppm
Mg  15 ppm
Na   12 ppm

One discrepancy I see is the Ca average of 25ppm quoted by you and the report of 57 and 63 on average for the two water plants as quoted in the attached .pdf document.

Any clarification? By the way, thanks for the quick replies guys! You're a great help.

Different units. The water report I posted uses "as CaCO3", Travis's is ppm. See Table 13 at the bottom of this page:
http://howtobrew.com/section3/chapter15-1.html
25 ppm is the same as 62.5 mg/L as CaCO3, so they're in the same ballpark.

The Calcium in the report is part of calcium carbonate.  Carbonate's weight is 100 and Calcium's weight is 40.  So the ratio is 2.5.  If you take the part of calcium as calcium carbonate in the water report......62 and divide by 2.5 you get the calcium content....24.8....

And no problemo.   Your very welcome.
