2021 Linn County Fair Homebrew Competition

Post by daryl »

Registration for the Linn County Fair's Homebrew Competition will be opening this weekend.

Details will be posted on the webpage...and the URL for the webpage will be posted here as soon as it is open for business.

The Linn County Fair will be held from Wednesday, June 23 until Sunday, June 27.

If you entries that are ready, I will accept registered entries next Thursday, June 17.

While these entries will not qualify for ProAM (if there is a ProAm this year), I am working on something special for at least one of the winning participants.

More later....
In the Fridge/On Tap: English Bitter, Schwarzbier, Cream Ale
In the keg: Wheat Beer, Russian Imperial Stout

I want to get this done tonight so we can announce it to the membership tomorrow night.....I've had some technical difficulties and some time challenges, but I have set aside tonight to get it wrapped up.

So if we want to bring entries to the meeting, do we just use standard labels and enter them after? Normal 2 bottles?

Go to : https://cedarrapidsbrewingsociety.org/proam

The website is now live.

If you had a registration in 2019...it is still active (the entries have been cleared); if you have forgotten your password, there are instructions on the site to get your password reset.

There are three drop off locations: House Divided in the Southern, Thew in the Central, and BIT in the Northern Linn County.

And...at least one winner (maybe more) will be invited to have their beer brewed at a local brewery and served in their taproom. How cool is that?

I see fewer entries this year compared to 2019. Is it just our club participating? I vaguely remember the Iowa City and Cedar Falls clubs submitting their entries in 2019.

I has some technical difficulties getting the Comp Web page up and running; and the added time crunch of preparing for the Benz Beer Festival; I started registration about a week later than I has hoped. So, that has taken a toll on participation.

But, we do have enough beers to have 2 or 3 rounds of judging; beers will be judged; and at least one should be selected to be brewed at one of the participating breweries.

I do have at least one entry from Thirsty....we will see where things stand at 7 PM tonight...I'll go around and pickup the entries...(and have at least three beers)!

Next year will be smoother and larger; and I think we will have more breweries participating as well....and I really want it to be an AHA sanctioned event. This will be a nice addition to the Linn County Fair and give some visibility to the local breweries and our club.

You are hearing it here first.....

Due to scheduling issues with the competition judges, judging will be postponed.

That will allow us to extend the registration and drop-off deadlines; for now, they have been extended through Saturday.

I will post judging details once the judges have agreed upon a time to meet.

Cheers,
Daryl

Judging will be held at House Divided tonight at 7 PM. I am showing up around 6 PM to get things set up and organized.
If you do not have an entry in the competition and you would be interested in assisting me in stewarding this evening, please Private Message me here.
While we do not have a lot of entries, I have a feeling that the judges have their work cut out for them.
I'll be sticking around afterwards to watch the end of the first game of the Stanley Playoff Finals until the game is over or Cal kicks me out....whichever happens first!
Cheers,
Daryl

The judging results have been posted on the competition website.

Congratulations to Divesh Lakhi for winning best in show for his Supernova NIEPA - NE Style IPA with Guava Puree, Lactose, and Vanilla.

The results/rankings of the four separate flights are also viewable on the competition website.

More news to follow in terms of which beers will be brewed where....four different beers will be brewed!

I will get the scoresheets scanned and posted on the competition website in the next few days.

There were 15 really nice beers submitted this year....we will shoot to double or triple that number in 2022.
