Brewer Recruitment - Barrel-Aged Jan 2023 - Flanders Red
This Topic is to be used by brewers to sign-up for communal brewing of a big beer...to barrel age in 2022 and to share during Barrel-Aged January 2023.
The plan is to remove the RIS from the barrel the first of the year 2022. We'll drain it, and then a day or two later, we'll fill it with the Flanders Red.
I have a recipe from Pat, and he is thinking about making up kits for the club - so you may only need to buy the Candi Sugar and yeast.
I will post the recipe soon with additional instructions.
Please sign up here if you are interested in participating, by stating the maximum numbers of gallons you are willing to contribute.
We will need a total commitment of about 60 gallons of beer (we will need some top off beer to keep as the beer ages and evaporates).
Cheers,
D

I will be bagging up grain for flanders red kits. A big kit will be 14 lbs of grain (2 lb pale, 6 lb vienna, 6 lb munich). You will need to add 1 lb of Special B and 1 lb of Belgian Dark Candy Sugar. In my set up, this generally produces 5.5 to 6 gallons of wort after the boil and into the fermenter with an expected ABV of 7% using Wyeast Roeselare. I can also bag up small kits which are just half of the big kit. This should produce 2.5 to 3 gallons of wort.
I will be bagging all of this grain up this weekend. And I will be handing it out at the business meeting.
The grain is already crushed.
Speak up quickly if you want a big or small bag of grain.

I have 6 big kits and 6 small kits. I will bring them to the business meeting.
I have three takers for big kits (Divesh responded in a different thread). So three big kits and six small kits available.
They all need to go home with someone else. I need the space in my house.

So far, I have 6 big kits for:
Travis
Ryan
Divesh
Daryl
Matt
Logan
That leaves 6 small kits (which can be doubled up for a big kit).
I will have all the grain at the meeting tomorrow.
I don't want to take any of it home.

I was at Opus for my daughter on Thursday so I missed the meeting. Also I got a new phone recently and didn’t have Tapatalk installed yet. All that is my fault.
Of course, I’m in for a big bag and making flander’s red. The barrel can still stay at my house. I can brew extra if needed for top off.
