2010 Meeting Notes only (please no replies)

Post by Mr T »

JANUARY 21st

President Travis called the meeting to order and directed VP Tony to keep the minutes.

The Club welcomed a Guest, Barry from North Liberty, who had been referred to the Club by Millstream.

Old Business

First order of business was to request turn-ins for the Club competition on Baltic Porters. Brian and Tom need to turn in to Travis ASAP. Travis will be lead judge. Chris and Dave expressed interest in judging. Still looking for a steward. Travis will send out an email to all interested parties on the date/time/place for the judging.

A reminder that the March Club competition is Pyment. Travis and Chris have entries. So, we will need a steward and judges.

A call for dues went out to those members who have not yet paid. A warning was issued that member status would be revoked if dues were not paid by February. Matt will turn over the list of who paid at the meeting to the Treasurer (Jim).

Millstream event is February 20th. Need to finalize the list of beers to send to Teresa by COB Friday. As of the meeting, Tom, Tony, Brian, Jeremy and Brando had beers to contribute. Travis suggested that folks that had really good beers, but smaller quantities (2 or 3 bombers, or a growler) could still contribute. We will see if we can do the “hourly specials” like at the Benz event and Iowa Festival of Beers. We will need to supply our own tapping equipment, as Millstream doesn’t have equipment for most of our kegs. Travis will keep talking to Teresa, but it looks like folks will be pouring their own beers and should get in free.

The Club BYO Magazine subscriptions are being mailed the next day by Travis.

New Business

A preliminary survey was made to see who was interested in attending the National Homebrewers Conference this June 17-19, 2010 in Minneapolis. It was noted that the main hotel (Sheraton Minneapolis South ) is sold out already. Arrangements have been made with a hotel across the street. The first milestone for registration is coming up at the end of March. The prices will go up after that. The Club needs to quickly decide if we are going to participate in Club Night or host a Hospitality Room. (FYI – per the webpage, IBU is planning to participate, so it would be great to set up next to them if we want to participate.)

It’s time for the annual grain order with Millstream. A club web post will be started for folks to sign up.

VP (Tony) is working on permanent name badges, with lanyards and bottle openers, for Club members. Idea is that the Club officers will bring them to each meeting and members will turn them back in at the end of the meeting (not take them home). The goal is to get them ready by the Millstream event.

Travis is trying to arrange for our Club to meet up with other nearby clubs. Contact has been made with Iowa Brewers Union (IBU) in Des Moines, to meet at Cedar Ridge Winery/Distillery for an event. Travis and Tom will work with Jeff Quint, owner of Cedar Ridge, on the possible dates most likely when weather is more predictable.

Next meeting (February) will be at the Longbranch Hotel. Because the Club felt that it was important to have the meeting after the Millstream event, the meeting will be moved back to February 25th. Travis will contact the Longbranch for the room.

A flyer will be made and posted on the site for members to promote LongBranch meetings. This will be available for printing on regular size paper and the date can be filled in for each time we host at the hotel.

Meeting was adjourned.
