Dear Iowa Beer Activists,
Thanks to your support of SF 2088, The Iowa Beer Equality Bill, Iowans may now legally enjoy Iowa-brewed beers up to 12% alcohol by volume.
Thanks for taking time to support Iowa’s beer and brewing community.
The Support Your Local Brewery Team

Congratulations and thank you for supporting craft beer in Iowa.
I wish that people would stop spreading that as it is not 12% ABV it is 12%ABW. The two items are not the same thing, you would think that those who are representing the trade would know the difference.

See you there.

You'd think the Brewers Assoc could tell the difference between ABV and ABW.

This is from John's Grocery:

The end of Iowa prohibition against high proof beer!

It finally happened! The state is getting out of the "high proof" beer business. Today, Governor Culver is set to sign SF 2088 which includes a provision that will put all beer up to 15% ABV in the hands of standard beer distributors. This opens up the market to hundreds of new brands and products and allows Iowa microbreweries to brew a wider variety of styles that traditionally contain more alcohol.

To celebrate the signing, we are offering a free 750ml bottle of Westmalle Dubbel with a $50 high proof beer purchase (offer valid until midnight on 3/10/2010). Pick up some great beer and have one on us to celebrate!

Dang, I wish I had time to go down there tonight. I would expect we'll be seeing a lot of deals as everything high-proof on the shelves is now over-priced (not that it wasn't before, but the stores didn't have much choice). That is, I assume that these will also not be taxed extra like they are now. Might be a good time to stock up on Belgians etc.
