Easy Partial Mash

Post by carrisr »

Has anyone tied this partial mash method?

I'm thinking of giving it a try on my next batch, except I'm planning on using a small 6-pack cooler instead of a pot for the mash. The cooler holds about 2 1/2 gallons of water, so I think I can do up to around 5# of grain. That means for my 2.5 gallon batches I could even do all grain for lower gravity brews if I want to.

I'm just looking to see if anyone local has tried this and how well it worked. I'm also trying to decide if I should start with something like a stout (since it would tend to hide mistakes) or stick to a recipe I've brewed a couple of times as extract.
