local place to buy yeast

Post by daveR »

Anybody know if there's a place near by where I can buy some WLP001 or Wyeast 1056? I have all the ingredients I need for my next brew, just not the yeast and I don't really want to pay $8 in shipping for a vial of yeast.

I recommend going to HyVee and picking up a dry packet of US05. It's about $5 and, if properly rehydrated, will work just as well as a vial of WLP001 or WY1056.

Otherwise, I have a pint jar of it in my fridge that I top-cropped a little while ago. You'll have to make a starter, but the price is about $5 lower than you can find locally....

PM me if you're interested.

Try the Hy Vee Drug store on Blairs Ferry, those are pretty common yeast strains, so they may be in decent shape. Make sure to check the expiration on the package before purchase. Benz Also sells yeast, however, I have seen a couple of complaints about out yeast on here from them.

Last I saw they only had like to types of liquid yeast at the hy vee drug store.. and not much more for dry yeast. Let me know if you find they have more. I usually have some ingredients to make beer, but not yeast.

They at least have Safale US05 for $5. I think I remember seeing Saflager S23 there, as well, but am not certain. I haven't seen liquid yeast there lately.

The liquid yeasts are usually in the cooler, ask the person working what they have or you could call them on the phone and ask if you want to save yourself a drive.
