cheap hops

Post by daveR »

I saw this post on homebrew talk and I thought I'd share.

http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f41/hops-bl ... ce-163783/

I ordered hops on Wednesday, I got them today. I ordered 12 oz of hops plus the Pliny pack and it came out to $30.65 total, a little more than $6.00 for shipping. I'll let you know when I actually use them and how the beers come out, but for around $1.00 an ounce, I thought it was worth the gamble.

If you don't mind buying by the pound or can split some with someone Puterbaugh Farms (www.hopsdirect.com) has great prices. They have most varieties (but not simcoe  ) just below or above $10/pound. I orded a pound of Amarillo ($9.75) and a pound of Kent Goldings ($11.25) for $21 plus shipping at $10 which is mostly for the processing. You can save on shipping by ordering a bunch at once. Still just under a dollar an ounce even when only getting two pounds. These are also the most recent crop from 2009 not the older 2008 stuff.

Maybe we could do a Club buy, like we do with grain?

Anyone interested?

This guy finally has his site up and running. Some of the cheapest hop prices I've seen. And you don't have to buy a full pound for the prices, they all come in 4oz increments.

Nice find Dave, those prices arn't bad. Especially there special 2 pounds for $14, they are 8 ounces each of:

Cascade
Centennial
Columbus
Willamette

Which are all good hops!

I'm going to order at least one of those special packs tonight or tomorrow, that's way too good of a deal. I'll probably order a few other things as well. If anyone wants to go in on my order let me know. Shipping is a lot cheaper that way.

Tom,
I'm definitely going to order, so let me know what kind and what quantity (They do multiples of 4 oz for single hop varieties) and I'll out it in with my order. You can pay me for them. I'll do that for anyone else too within reason.

Also, use discount code test2190 for 10% off your order. The discount doesn't apply to that 2lb pack.

I'll do 8oz of Tettnanger and 8oz of Williamette.

I'm gonna have to figure out some kind of style I could make to use up some of the hops I'm building up.

Randy,
I'd be in for the one of the $14 special packd. Seems like a good variety of hops the are called out in most recipies I have been looking to brew, and not a bad price.
