Where to buy my Recipes
Where to buy my Recipes
Hey all, I am new to the area, from Arizona, I am looking to see if there is a post covering the locations that sell the goods, or, if you all have a preferred location to get the beer brewing goods from.
Hi, Welcome to the area and the forum. I haven't ever been to the shop in Davenport, so not much help there.
As Tom said most of us order online. The local shops (Hy-Vee and Benz) have some of the basic goods, a few kits, and some specialty malts. They come in handy when you realize you forgot something. A few of us in the club have some specialty malts also.
Stop by a meeting and say Hi. New faces are always welcome.

Jesus must have been a yeast. Who else could turn water into wine?

There is also a small store in Dubuque, Bluff Street. Last I was there he had some basic grains on hand and a good selection of yeasts(I think he only carries dry yeast now) and a fairly good selection of hops. Like most small specialty stores Bluff Street Brewhaus is a bit pricey.
Welcome!

Hello, and welcome.. I agree too, pretty much order online. Sometimes you find a few needed items locally… sometimes it takes a call to a fellow brewer half way through the brew session for that needed ingredient.
Northern Brewer used to have super fast shipping, I could order something on Tuesday at noon, and it would be at my house the next day at noon, standard shipping. But lately they process slower and ups takes a couple of days to get here..
But they pack stuff to last, and if you have any problems, the customer service has been top notch.. (starting to sound like a paid endorsement here)
Come out and meet the crew sometime, one of the guys actually works at Benz so he could probably give you some more info on what they can get or all ready have.
cheers

Thanks all for the responses.... I appreciate that. Coming from Phoenix it was nice to be able to take a quick run to the store and get direct feedback from the resident owner... But, I moved out here for the small town feel, so now I guess I'll be ordering too.
I do visit Davenport frequently because I have some family out there. I will give you all a report on the place and the selection, prices, etc. I am looking forward to being able to brew some beers that will be more climate tolerant out here such as a lager. AZ was not the place for that. I will look forward to meeting with you all soon. Thanks again, Matt

If anybody goes to Des Moines, Beer Crazy is a good homebrew store there. My sister visits frequently from Des Moines and I usually have here grab me some Wyeast when she comes to town. They were $5.75 a pack last time I got one and the manufacturing date was very fresh. I talked to them and they said they turn their yeast inventrory very frequently.
