Iowa Festival of Beers - 2010

Post by tony b »

Here's the scoop on this year's Fest in Amana.

First off, despite some of the past hard feelings about this event, we have to remember that this is one of our main events each year to promote the Club and recruit new members. So, here's the deal.

Teresa has asked the clubs to bring no more than 25 gals each. She is trying to keep the event from turning into a big drunk fest. She's also asking the clubs to monitor their pours and try and keep them to the 1 oz range.

We will be given 5 admission passes. Basically, one per keg, which is what we were asking for, kinda.

If we bring one of our club kegs from Big Brew Day, we need others to donate up to 20 more gals. We don't need it all to be 5 gal kegs, we can still do smaller quantities of specialty beers as "hourly specials."

So let's start a signup for the rest of the beers.

The 5 passes will go to those donating beers. If we get more than 5 people wanting to donate, we'll make a decision at the August Club meeting on how to divy up the passes, as well as organizing for the event.

Others are still encouraged to attend and help represent the Club, but you'll will have to pay your own way.

I'll start the beer list for the Fest.

I plan to bring 3 Tap-a-Draft keglets (6 liters each - Irish Red, American Brown, and Marblehead), which is about 4.5 gals. I plan for them to be "hourly special" releases.

So we need about another 15 gals.

All, I realize many of you were planning on bringing beer for this, after speaking with Millstream, I just want to be perfectly clear, we cannot bring more than 25 gallons, regardless if you have to pay for a ticket or not, this is a limit of volume which is new this year.

With that said, were going to have to pick and choose from those bringing beer, I’ll let Tony devise a system for that if we find ourselves beyond the limit. But I would like to remind the group we have BrewBQ the weekend before this, and end of Sept. 25th is the Grout Festival, so if your itching to donate that beer, you have plenty of opportunity.

Who has the big brew keg for this event. I have one of them I was planning to bring to Beer Camp. Left in the car of course to conceal the keg. I had a free pass last year so I will gived others an opportunity to represent. Too bad they insist on making this less cool each year. I still plan to go just don't know about beer yet.

I have a coffee bender clone about ready to keg. I was going to bring that to either amana or independence. I have a hefe that is almost fermented out for the other. If someone else has a beer they want to bring to amana, I will bow out. I will be in attendance either way.

I planned on bringing a weizenbock. Let's see what all gets submitted. The tap box can go either way.
I agree with Matt, if it get toned down to much people will quit going.

We could eliminate the problem by just not admitting the drunk nudists. Of course, that has become an annual fixture of the event.

LOL, My Bad. I would miss them too.

Just saying I think that is something raising flags for the organizer. I think they are great!

You shut your whore mouth.
I second Tim's sentiments, however, I say we make it a clothing optional event!
They would not notice the nude people if everyone was that way.

Plus if you get rid of the nude people, next you are going to want to ban the puker's from the event, where does it stop matt?

When they came to take the nude people, I did nothing, because I was not nude...

Best part about the Amana fest is the shit ton of beer. I usually get my buschlight buddies convinced to go because you can get hammered drunk for $15. Hopefully everyone doesn't start running out of beer an hour before it ends.

I don’t think its going to radically change much, as I recall 3rd base LCT only bring 15-20 gallons normally, so that won’t change anything for him, and likewise for probably several of the other breweries. It will probably most likely just affect the home brewers. Look at it this way Kurt, the club will have more brew so your buddies can go to more events… or.. tap that keg at home and have me over!

Crazy Hat Contest!

Missed this tidbit in the info on the Fest. Wear a crazy hat (homemade or purchased) and you could win some prizes donated by the commercial brewers.

So, Everybody Cut Footloose!

OK, back to serious biz: so far here's the beers that we have:

Tom's weizenbock
Tim's coffee bender (or hefe)
Tony's Irish Red, American Brown and Marblehead (Boston Lager Clone).
Club Keg from Big Brew Day (Rocktoberfest).

Anyone else plan to bring something? We could use a couple of small quantities for "hourly specials".
