Depends on when and how lit I am on going up the observation tower, but i'm in.

The Pinicon Ridge Observation Tower is open to the public at no charge from early April thru early November each year, it is closed during the winter months. At 1,028 feet above sea level, it is one of the highest points in Linn County - and from the observation platform, one commands a wonderfully scenic view of the Wapsipinicon River valley and the adjoining countryside as far as the eye can see!

Been up there tons of times, it's a nice view. Just a caution though, it's a bit of a workout climbing up and down. Might want to do it fairly sober too as the stairs are all metal and would hurt like hell if you tripped.

Where is your sense of adventure? If you fall it would only be to the next landing a probably won't hurt until the next day.

Jim and Randy, I have a yakima rack on my wife's Honda Pilot that holds two canoes. It may fit on one of your cars. I know Randy has a RAV. What do you have Jim.

I have a Ford Escape. The Yakima rack should fit.

I doubled checked on the yakima site and it looks like your vehicle will work with the same equipment as on my wifes. Would you be available to stop out the night before on Friday or early Saturday to load a couple canoes on your vehicle?

I am also still considering adding a 6 canoe rack to my father-in-laws utility trailer. I won't know until closer to game time. I will continue to post new info on the hauling situation here.

I can stop over early Saturday to mount the rack and canoes. We can finalize the plans at the monthly meeting.

Ok, matt could you look into it. Doesn't make much since due to our kegs being equivelent to 2 1/2 cases of beer. I don't know where the keg chage came from. This is just what I heard floating around in the air. I we can certainly bring bombers if that is what we are regulated too, just hate to have all that glass out there.

I just spoke with the DNR officer at Pinicon Ridge. He said he has a buddy that kegs homebrew too. Unfortunately they don't allow kegs at the campgrounds. He said you would have to transfer it to jugs (growler). He understood the logic for the rule is messed up but rules are made for the general public and the rules state no kegs.

So, you could have a concealed keg if you like. I was planning on bringing the keg of the Big Brew beer. I am just going to leave it in the car and fill a pitcher now and again. I don't feel like putting it all in growlers. They really don't bug you that much at your campsite anyway.

Oh, and he did not seem concerned about the size of the jug so a growler should be fine even though it exceeds the 1L limit in the written law.

They really don't bother you much there. Last time they let us drink beer on the bus while they shuttled us to our canoe put-in. Bascially, be cool and there will be no problem.

Keep in mind that when they formed the rules, they probably thought of kegs as 15 gallon 1/2 kegs, not 5 gallon cornies. But anything with a tap is all the same to them.
