2007 Festival of Iowa Beers

Post by bkanderson »

This is an annual event that takes place down in Amana across from Millstream. We are again going to have a table. We need people to sign-up to bring some of their homebrew. You can bring it in bottles and pour it into glasses or bring a keg if you have one. It would be great if we could get more participation from the group this year. Last year we only had a couple of people that supplied all the beer. I believe we went through 4 kegs plus many bottles. All club members please consider bringing some beer to the fest so we can have more support from the club.

Brian & Dave
keg Hefe, 1 growler Imperial Stout, keg double IPA

Mark
1 keg Wheat, 1 keg Wit

Matt & Larry
1 keg Brown

This was the check list from last year. I think we should also get a poster made for the club with the new website listed on it.

1. Who is planning on attending? I will be there for the whole event, but I would appreciate some help. The fest is from 1pm - 5pm. Please pick a one hour block to help pour and answer questions at the booth. I will be there around 11am to setup.

2. I will bring my CO2 and splitter and taps for 4 kegs. I will also have ice and coolers to keep the kegs cold.

3. I need someone to make a banner. I have no artistic ability so I am delegating this task. Please let me know who is taking this on.

4. I will bring some grain for people to sample.

5. Matt F. could you bring some fresh hops for people check out.

6. I will bring one pad of paper.

7. Brian said he would make 100 brochures.

8. Bring any homebrew ribbons for us to display.

9. Please add anything else that I may have forgot.

I also remember that we want to be there early so we get a good spot in the tent. If I remember correctly there were some space issues last time.

i can be there for the whole event including setup
on tap i have a marginal IPA and a really sucky belgian 'orange' i can bring. I will bring the Infusilator and we can run the belgian through it since it sucks anyway. i have enough gas equipment to run 2 kegs.

i hope to have an american wheat by then also with a slight chance of an american pale. We want to be sure we have enough beer because i heard from Travis of 3rd base that it sucks to run out of beer at a festival  and this will hopefully be bigger than last year.

if someone has anything like a porter that would be great.

i bankrolled the banner last year and it is now obsolete.

we should work out the details at the meeting thursday and decide on the logo so someone can get a banner made. I had it made at Kinkos and it was around $35.

I plan to be there for the entire event. I will bring my hoppy American Brown. It is more like a Brown Porter but with lots of Amarillos. Thanks Mark.

I also have a stand that will support three taps. It looks like a big T. I used it for my sisters wedding. You can hang some picnic faucets through it so they are easier to get too. I suppose you could mount a faucet on it too.

I will bring a vine of hops to display.

I propose that those donating an entire keg of beer get the free tickets. The Brown Ale is mine. So far that gives us Brian, Dave, Mark and myself. If we get some more we may need to draw straws. It didn't seem to be an issue last year.
Matt Franklin
Slappy Brewing North

On Tap:
American IPA
Strata Hazy IPA
Dr. Lee Orval
American Strong Ale
Friend of the Devil Belgian Golden Strong
Imperial Stout

The stand is a good idea, I actually thought of that last night and remembered we were wishing we had something last year. I may try to cobble something together also or just go for a jbox with a dual channel chiller plate. One of the kegs will be served ala steve....which by the way i found out you CAN get sizeable fruit chunks into the valving of a Perlick. Steve is all cleaned out and resting from his big weekend, the missing Oring has been found.

I will be there for the entire event. With any luck I'll have some beer to bring, I'd like to try for a dunkel. I can help with setup and serving too. Though I may need some wondering/drinking time.
