I've never dealt with them, but a friend of mine had the opposite experience.  Stopping at both stores, he got a cold shoulder from Northern, but found the guys at Midwest really helpful.

I regularly use NB, Midwest, and Brewmaster's Warehouse. I've had equally good results from each. They carry slightly different stock so there's some things I need to order from one or the other. Midwest's pricing tneds to be a bit less, especially on equipment. NB has flat rate shipping so can be less overall when the order weight is higher.

Brewmaster's warehouse is really cool in that you can create your own kit and they'll measure and mix all the grains for you. You don't have to buy them buy the pound this way which is nice for some of less used specialty grains. They also have a library of popular recipes you can just order if you don't want to create your own. They also run a 10% of coupon on recipes in most issues of BYO.

I wasn't aware of the brewmaster mixology...gonna have to check that out. I have tons of partial bags of grain...bags meanings ounces.

Nb as much as they haved goofed on orders they are pretty fast about making it right.

I still order from mainly NB and Midwest. It always depends on what I am after. Price tends to be my guide. The midwest guys were a pain as we got to know them, but that was just two of the employees. A former Midwest guy now at Surly, Beaner, was cool when giving us our tour.

Don't forget http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.ph ... ommon/home. They are much cheaper than the homebrew retailers for stainless steel fittings and what not. The place is owned by a guy in Larry's new homebrew club. I got a fitting for $9 for $19 everywhere else. This place supplies parts to the homebrew retailers.

Also, I'm a big fan of Austin Homebrewing Co. for ordering beer kits. They have a lot of recipes to pick from and a lot of "clones."
