Schwarzbier Saturday

Post by carrisr »

Provided my new kegging setup arrives Friday as scheduled, I plan to brew a German Schwarzbier. The plan is to brew on Saturday. If anyone is interested in helping/watching/hangin' let me know.

Schwarzbier Saturday

Post by JimB »

My brother-in-law and I would be interested. We just joined the club at the last meeting. We've been brewing extract kits on and off the last couple years and just attempted our fist full grain batch last week. We've been looking for an opportunity to hook up with someone with some experience. If Saturday is going to work out let me know the details and we will bring some beer.

Looks like I'm on for Saturday. I'm fairly flexible for time, what works for you?

Just about any time works for us. Doug (my brother-in-law) will come from Solon but anytime after 9am would probably work well for him. I'm in Marion so it's no problem for me.Jim

Let's shoot for starting by 11am. So if you all show up here between 10:30-11am that would work.

Just a note: I brew in my garage which isn't heated, so you might want to throw on some warmer clothes today. It's a little warmer than outside but still pretty chilly.

We use a garage also. I think we'll be good to go. See you in a shortly.

So just to follow up: looking over my notes from today's brew it looks like my mash extraction efficiency was a bit higher than expected. My volumes look about right, so I don't think my boil off was more than usual. The fact that I had slightly higher pre-boil gravity is the big giveaway. Now as I said, I could dilute a little, but for this beer I don't really care if I'm 5 points over.

It looks like the wort will be cool enough to pitch yeast in a few hours. Now it's just the long wait until February when this lager should be ready.
