Benz Beer Fest May 10th 1pm-5pm (Beer Nuts table?)
I don't know if it is too late to do something like this, but, I'll throw it out there anyway.
It seems to me that there is no better way to give a homebrew club exposure like homebrew itself. Would it be to short of notice for us to organize a group brew (one batch) for a demonstration at the event. It would not be too much overhead if all that were attending brought something to contribute to the brew. This with a couple of kegs may really boost membership.
I don't know just a thought.

We are not printing a full out flyer of all the beers and breweries that will be present, but if you email me some info I can print out some flyers that you can hand out at the event.
The brewing beer at the event sounds like a great idea. I will run it by the powers that be but I am sure they would be ok with it if you didn't mind the labor. We can donate some ingredients.

That sounds cool, but do consider the logistics. It will probably need to be extract/extract with grains. All grain would take longer and require more space. My experience at festivals is there usually is just enough room for beer and a few people behind the booth.
With brewing you need to make sure you have some clearance for the burner, a water source for chilling and place to dump water. It may be possible but will require some good planning. There are less than two weeks to get this together. Someone will really need to step up and put this together to make it happen. I don't have time but will keep in the loop to see how I can help.

The Cedar Falls CRAZE club tried a 'brew demo' at a festival and they did not find it worth trying again. Matt's comments about the logistics hit home with what happened to them, and if you take a look on the Benz website at the photos there won't be much room and it is a liability risk with the flame and boiling liquid. You have to admit most of making beer is sanitizing or watching water boil....how exciting is that? I think you can get a ton of mileage from the equipment and ingredients and 'walk' interested people through the process over and over without actually doing it. We could even show a 3 tier system and a simple extract 'pot' to give an idea of the options available.......if only we knew an extract brewer.....

Does anyone have the northernbrewer how to brew video or another video. maybe we we can do is bring a small tv and have it playing how to extract and how to all-grain brew. people can watch that. I can look, I might have a vhs tape on how to brew. I also have a 14inch TV with build int vhs player I can bring. If someone else has something better, let me know.

Neither do I - LOL!! I'll wear my other shirt with the patch.
Brian, it will be my only opportunity to get them for the rest of the month. May is seriously busy. I am on business travel for 2 weeks.

I can be there for the whole time. I can bring some beer, but I don't have much. I'll bring what I can. Mark, I assume you're bringing the banner and other stuff we need for the booth. I have two big plastic buckets that will hold two Corny's each if we need them. We need to find out if Benz is supplying ice or if we need to bring our own. A sign-up sheet is definitely needed. I can create one to bring. Brian, do you still have the setup for the flyers you created for the last Festival of Iowa Beers? Maybe you could revise it and bring some.
I agree that a brewing demo is not very feasible, but maybe we could bring a couple of pots and a burner. I like the video idea better though. We're not really set up as a club to actually teach someone to brew who has never brewed before (although I'd certainly be willing to give it a try), so a demo wouldn't serve much of a purpose. Most people who would be interested in the club have probably already started brewing and know how it works.
It seems to me that we could use a special session to discuss who will be doing what - and the best way to do that is to get together one night this week to discuss and drink beer! We could either meet at 3rd Base or at my house. Wed or Thurs works for me. Let me know what everyone wants to do and which day.

Wed works better for me then Thurs.
I hate to disagree with you Larry, but with my Old Brew club in NC. We had several parking lot brew exhibits and attracted quite a bit of new members that way. Actually that was what drew me back into it. Though I had tried a little extract brewing in school.
I would say that a all grain would be very difficult to do with out alot of pre thought but an extract could have been done. you just bring several sealed pales of water and steralizer.
Anyway, I realize it is too short of notice to do it now, however, I did just want to point out that my old club got alot of attention that way. People don't realize how easy it can and how little it can cost to do until they see for themselves. That is actually why you would want to do a very simple extract brew. Anyway maybe at a later time this may be possible.

I did speak to Benz this morning. We will have a table at the fest and we are free to bring beer to the event. They said we could have an electrical supply. I will bring a small TV with built-in vhs player. Does anyone have a homebrewing vhs tape? I will look tonight and see. I will modify the flyer and stop by copyworks to have some printed out. I will try and be there to setup but not sure what time. We can come anytime after 9:00 am. Is there a general time we want to start setting up? I would think 30-45 minutes is sufficient so how about noon-12:15. Benz will supply the ice. We need to bring supplies to hang the banner.
We really need to know who is bring beer and how much. Will it be a growler, a keg, bottles and how many. Please sign-up and let everyone know what you will bring.
- Will bring 1-2 growlers of Imperial Stout, 1-2 growlers of hefe or wit if they are ready.
- Do we all want to try and wear the same shirt? Charcoal work shirt or black work shirt? If you have one. People can contact me to get their shirts prior to this weekend if they want. So far only 1 person has picked up their shirts.
