Once thing that makes a huge difference with this type of mill is malt conditioning. There are some posts on our forums and many on the big brew forums if you want to learn more about it. I basically use a water mister to add a small amount of moisture to the grain a few hours before I brew. this softens up the husks and greatly reduces the tearing.
