I think whatever you can get your hands on for cheap is the best option. I have a side by side like Randy and really like it. My mom gave a fridge to me when she remodeled her kitchen. I use four 5-gallon kegs on the bottom and can fit a few of my 2.5 gallon kegs on the middle shelf. I have four taps in the door and two cobra taps inside for when I roll with 6 kegs. I really like the handy storage for beer in the door and the extra shelves.

I can fit 4 kegs in mine, but my CO2 is outside the fridge. I can never keep them straight but I think ball lock kegs are slightly narrower than pin lock. My kegs are ball. With for kegs I still have shelf space above and in the door for bottles or cans. Like Matt, I could probably fit a few additional shorties in there if I take out the shelf. I only have 3 taps set up with room on the door for a 4th if I decide to add it.

Never thought you could cram 4 kegs in a SxS though. External taps make a big difference. I will keep an eye out for about anything on the cheap

Seriously, you just need to ask all your friends if any of them are buying a new fridge soon. Most the time, people have the installers haul away the old ones.
Speaking of which, I might have a spare fridge in the near future. It's a bit on the small side. I'll check to see how many kegs it can hold before I have it hauled away.

About anything will probably run you more than $50. Alliant Energy will pay you $50 for any old running fridge. They pick up and haul away too. May be a reason there are no freebies out there. If you have to buy new, chest freezer will be the cheapest option.

Funny I'm at sears now and looking at a large chest freezer and they are $400 new and I'm sure it can be negotiated. Mine old one was too small so maybe I just need to get another chest unitMatt F wrote:About anything will probably run you more than $50. Alliant Energy will pay you $50 for any old running fridge. Haven't noticed any trouble with mine. I've got the old "mechanical" style on my beer fridge. The original thermostat welded itself on, so it was easiest to toss one of those into the mix.

And if you can wait a week or two, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a new fridge. I'm just waiting for the "black Friday" sales. At that point, one of my two fridges will need to go.

Thanks a bunch. I am putting my "needs" on hold for a bit until I can find a better deal under $200.JimPotts wrote:And if you can wait a week or two, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a new fridge. I'm just waiting for the "black Friday" sales. At that point, one of my two fridges will need to go.
