BBQ Off 2013

Post by Mr T »

Tony, wouldn’t miss it. I’ll be there. Thanks Mark for hosting.

Normally portions are fairly small, and is served up in your service ware. How do we plan on serving the chicken this year, especially if we have a bunch of legs?

To accommodate schedules, we're going with FRIDAY, July 26th @ 6:30pm for this year's BBQ comp. The Jensens have graciously offered to host.

Mark & Michelle Jensen
3130 Alleghany Drive Northeast
Cedar Rapids IA 52402

The meat choice this year is chicken. We recommend legs, but you can bring any cut that you'd like.

Since this is a regular party, feel free to break out those special commercial beers you've been saving up and can't share at the regular meetings, in addition to homebrews.

Just to get an idea of the number of entries to expect, please post if you plan to bring chicken to enter.

Unless we get an unusually high number of entries, we will still be using the catering pans w/sterno. Legs aren't really that big, so we should be able to get quite a few in a half-pan, especially if you alternate them.

My electric one is probably too small to be useful with the regular pans, but I might be able to use a bigger disposable aluminum pan in it - I'll check since I've never done that before.

Also, Mark has a nice big gas grill, we could put it on low and put pans of legs on it, too, if we need more room.

And folks, if you aren't entering the contest, consider bringing a nice side dish to share, or some snacks.

Because of the change to Friday, I may not be competing. Unless I can somehow get the day off. I should be able to come though.

End of July is a crazy busy time for the 401k world with DOL filing deadlines on 31st. I'll need many beers.

I will be attending but not competing.

Anyone else? Please if you plan to attend and/or compete please let us know. Competitors need to know how much chicken to bring. If you are not competing please bring along another food item to share.

Good times were had by the handful of us that were there.

Let me be the first to congratulate Tim, for once again, winning the Beer Nuts BBQ Challenge. You suck! :P

All the entries (4) were outstanding. Good job guys!

Already looking forward to next year!
