Or a spray bottle to mist the foam until you get more control over the boil.

Well, used the new pot for the first time yesterday. It wouldn't be a brew day without issues. Popped an o-ring tightening up the thermometer after the leak test. So, off to the hardware store to score spares. It passed the initial leak test with the new o-ring, but when it heated up on the stove during the boil, it started to leak; only about 2 - 3 drops/minute, but enough to make a mess on the stove - see other post about building a dedicated brew room!!!!

The pot itself worked like a champ. No threat of boil over at all with a full 5 gal boil. Transferring out through the ball valve was soooo much nicer than dumping out the old 3-gal kettle and worrying about spills and burns. I was obvious that I got better hop utilization in a full 5 gal boil than with the old 2.5 gal boils; plus, I could do a serious rolling boil in this kettle that I couldn't do in the old one. Wasn't too hard to clean afterwards. Think I'm gonna like the new toy!!
