Re: Beer Nuts Family Picnic 2015
OK, we will be able to come. What is the location address, and starting time?
Beer Nuts Family Picnic 2015 - Directions and Time
Time: Anyone is welcome to arrive after 1 PM; the Competition will be held with a potluck, starting between 4:00 - 4:30 PM.
Bring a side dish (salad, dessert, cassorole, vegetable plate, etc.) to share; and, if you are competing in the Brisket Throwdown - plan on having your entry ready to present by 4 PM. (Set-up will begin at 4 PM; serving should commence no later than 4:30 PM - depending upon the number of entries).
Below is a map to our farm. You can see that from Cedar Rapids or Marion, going north and intercepting County Home Road (E34) is the simplest way to go.
Arriving via County Home Road
Going east on County Home Road, you will pass through the little village of Whittier. Once you have passed Whittier, turn right on the first blacktop heading South; that is Springville Road (X20) and our driveway will be the first one on the left.
Arriving via HWY 151
If you are familiar with Springville, you can go out HWY 151 and exit at the Springville water tower (you'll see a bank and Casey's from the highway) and work your way along Springville Road to the main road through town (in town X20 is called Broadway) and head north. Once you are clear north of town, our driveway will be the last one on the right, just before you reach the stop sign at County Home Road.

Who are our contestants for the Brisket throwdown?
Are there any specific guidelines for these entries?
What will be the guidelines for judging? For example, each judge/picnic attendee will receive a 2oz sample.

Re: Beer Nuts Family Picnic 2015
I am planning a brisket entry.
What we've done in the past is a simple, one person/one vote system. I print off tickets to hand out. We use numbered cups corresponding to the samples. Drop your ticket into the cup of the one you like best. At the end, we empty out the cups and count the votes. We will need a steward, just like beer judging, to assign the sample numbers to the entries.
We can go over details at the meeting tomorrow night.

Big Thanks to Daryl and Marilyn for hosting. Gorgeous day, great food, and excellent beers! Another great picnic event, even if the bonfire wasn't epic this year.whitedj wrote:Thanks to Daryl and Marilyn for hosting the 2nd annual beer nuts family picnic and BBQ!
