Matt F wrote:We did a big Brew day years ago at a members house in his large garage. Had a nice turnout with about 30 people. Only 20 were members at the time. Had three different systems going including mine. That was fun.
I had this thought but it seems like some strangers may be less likely to attend in someone's house. Last year we had a bunch of random people show up because they just happen to be downtown.

Yeah, we always have curious bystanders at Benz when we're doing it there.

I remember that session, I believe that it was in Brian Anderson's garage? Was a great party! I think we picked up a couple of new members that night.

My thoughts are similar to some others posted, it doesn't have to be all at the same place or even at the same time. A mix would be good, to hit all the bases. If Quinton would let us set up on his patio, Joe @ BIY outside his store, and Benz. Has anyone reached out to the Parks & Rec dept to see if we could do one in a public park? Reach out to HOOPLA and get some publicity about the event.

What will strengthen the club? Trying to get people interested in brewing, who have not brewed before?
Or picking up people who have been brewing for a while and are ready to take the next step? Ready to have their beer honestly critiqued? Enjoy the company of other brewers? Have time to
commit to improving the club?

Don't say both.

I don't see any problems with having a big group brewday in a public/commerical setting. But why does that have to be the absolute focus? We have plenty of members to go to someones house for a big brewday and maybe grill and just have a good time. It doesn't always have to be about gaining new members. I feel with the new members we have gained in the past year or so, that it would allow us to get to know each other better and grow from there. There's other things that I think would be cool like say one Saturday we do a brewery tour where say we hit up a couple members house that day, see how they brew, try their beers and go to the next ones. Thoughts?

Don't forget new locations for the club meetings. Chris at Quarter Barrel has explicitly asked that we schedule a meeting at their location. As they have a brewhouse I think it's a great idea.

Despite the mixed reviews about Another Road I think they deserve a shot once their new location is open. They have a new brewer who is working out the kinks.

Turner Alley is going to have their taproom open in February the last I heard. They would be the perfect location for a beer club meeting.

Also, Quinton has mentioned to me several times about doing a wort rally type of event using Disaster at Meux wort. I don't have all the details but I'm definitely going to get in on that once announced.

I agree with all of this.

I fully support the rotating meeting location idea, especially with the new breweries opening up, BUT - we have to be diligent in maintaining the webpage and Facebook pages with the current meeting locations. We've be lax in the past, gotta do better!
