Sorry there is a conflict there, I think I will be able to swing the stewarding duties.
Thanks Chris.

Not sure. The ones I mentioned are in the 2015 BJCP guidelines. Probably safest to stick with those.

I think Big Grove's is a coffee stout.
The two American Stouts I have found for calibration are Deschutes Obsidian Stout and Sierra Nevada Stout.
I'll head to Benz to see if they have others to offer. May not need more than two, but it might be nice to round out with three...just to get a feel for the breadth of the class.

We might need some tasting glasses.
Can someone bring a case of our glasses? I can take them home afterwards and run them through the dishwasher.
Might look into getting case of better tasting glasses for our competitions.

I can bring a case of tasters. I own 4 cases of plain pilsner style 4 oz glasses.
Don't worry Daryl, I'll take care of the washing, so there's no hand-offs to coordinate.
See ya'll Sunday @ 4pm.

Fair enough. Probably good idea to stick with guidlines. Don't listen to drunk guy having lunch

Oakland Rd also has those beers pretty much all the time. Bells Kalamazoo Stout is another good example.

I like to listen to the drunk guy at lunch. I am also jealous of him.

Keeping my eye on the weather. If we get all the snow they are predicting, my butt ain't going nowhere tomorrow! If you've been to my house, you'll understand.

Hmm, tasted my extra bottle of bottle-conditioned stout next to the same beer on tap... Not impressed

It's not that bad out now. I just drove out my driveway to JC Penney on the west side of CR. Just snow, not icey.

Radar looks like additional accumulation of snow is unlikely.
Reporting here from rural Linn County...plows have been out and we have pretty normal winter driving conditions. And while the wind has been constant, they have not been very strong....just enough to move some of the new snow around and filling in the low lying areas.
I say we proceed and knock this out; given the advisory is set to expire at 6 PM and we should expect road conditions to improve throughout this afternoon
We have nine entries.
We have available to the judges three calibration stouts from the 2015 BJCP guidelines: Avery's Out of Bounds Stout; Deschutes' Obsidian Stout; and Sierra Nevada's Stout (West Coast Style).
Unsalted blue corn chips will be available and used as a palate cleanser.
I plan to be there at or just before 4 PM...let's try to crack open the first entry just after 4 PM.
Reply-to or PM me with any questions or concerns.
Y'all be careful driving; let's git'er done and get home safe!

Looks like they've plowed Coldstream, so barring new snow, I should be able to get out and make it there by 4pm.
Given 9 entries + 3 calibrations, do we need 2 cases of tasting glasses, maybe even 3? Each case is 24.
I'll check back just before I leave the house.

I think one case will do.
We should have water and can rinse the tasting glass. Each judge might take three (one for sampling, one water, and one for calibration).
Sound good?

As long as I have water to rinse, I will be fine
