That's great, never googled that before. I picked this up from an old airforce guy at work. It's the tape they used on the F4's [iron pigs] to make weather resistant repairs. Its a technically called 'self-amalgamating tape' -- basically it's a silicone tape that sticks to its self but nothing else with no adhesive or other gooey mess that electrical tape has. It's sometimes advertised to fix hoses with leaks, etc.

The key is to stretch it as your applying it and overlap ~30-50% of the width of tape.

Cool. Scotch 3M brand #33 electrical tape is recommended for not leaving sticky residue. It is how you mount a fishing reel to a Tennessee style cork handle on a fishing rod. Not as cool as Pig Tape though.

I don't know what's cooler or funnier: that there exists a thing called pig tape, or that Dan knows what that shit is!

Never heard of that name before, but being a long time ham radio operator, self-amalgamating tape is the only of about two non-permanent ways of making a good waterproof seal on a coax connector or splice. I don't think it would hold much if any pressure, however. You can get it at any hardware, Menards, etc. Good stuff. Once it amalgamates, though you have to cut it off and throw it away, you'll never get it apart.

A large piece of heat shrink tubing (you can get pieces with that big of a dimeter online) would work too for splash protection. Neither method would be "rated" however...
