Well, I finally got off my butt and started my meads - 2 separate batches, a 5 gal (clover) and a 1 gal (Desert Wildflower). They are bubbling away nicely in their carboys. So far, so good. My plan is to break up the 5 gal batch into smaller batches in secondary and do some various things with it - melomels and metheglins. The one gallon batch of wildflower is probably going to be a traditional.

Did you go with a wine bottle with cork...or beer bottle with caps?

Wine bottle and corks is what use.

I have plenty of green champagne bottles, and I am thinking of using some of those and corking.

I am pretty sure a standard wine cork will work with a champagne bottle. Which is quite a bit of mead to sip in one sitting, but it will typically be my wife and I...and I could re-cork for a day or two.

Did we ever settle that it's an open bottle format?

All of the rules I have looked over seem to allow either capped or corked.

If I has submitted to the LOTMW competition, I would have sent capped beer bottles, since all of my mead is still and not sparkling.

My plan is to cork my meads and store them on racks.

All of my bottles are corked so that is how I am rolling.

So to clarify , turn in is first quarter of 2018, but won't be judged for another year?, equaling the 15 months?

Turn in will be the 3rd Thursday of March 2018. I will arrange for judging prior to the 3rd Thursday of April 2018.

I don't care if they are corked, crown capped, or swing-top. I would assume 2 small format (12 oz or 375 ml) or one large format (22 oz or 750 ml) bottles.

I will grab a copy of the entry data for NHC and post it to the forum.

My wife usually closes on Thursday nights but I will try and make arrangements to get my entry there.

No problem Clint. I will be collecting that evening. We (Pat or I) can work with you to get your mead entered outside of the meeting.
