I'm planning on going. Don't know yet if I'm taking a full 5 gallons or less?

I just ordered a package of malolactic bacteria for adding to my cider.

The only thing I could get was a package of freeze dried bacteria that is big enough for a 66 gallon batch.

So I can split this up if anyone else is interested. It will be $2.50 for enough to do up to 6 gallons of cider.

We will talk about malolactic fermentation in the cider class tonight.

I’m in for 5 gallons. The Facebook event says 6-8 pm. Is that when we are supposed to meet down there to pick up our cider and hear from the cider maker?

Will the pressings be available for quick pickup/fill at any time between 6-8PM, or is there a set schedule? (trying to fit in the time between kids stuff etc)

Andrew,
I asked around and was told that you could just drop in to grab the juice after 6 PM if that's what works best for you.

Yes, that is the time interval for the event.

I doubt there will be anyone watching the door, if you need to grab and dash....or want to leave early.

I am going to have things prepped at home before I go down (clean out the carboys, hydrate the yeast, get the aerator out, etc.), so that when I get home after 9 PM, all I have to do is transfer the juice, aerate the juice, pitch the yeast, pop in the airlock, and go to bed. In fact, I'll probably go down early because they have some apples that I am specifically interested in trying (for eating/baking); and they are only available through U-Pick.

Should be fun.

I assume the juice will be refrigerated. It was the last time I got juice from them.

Allow time for your juice to warm up before you pitch yeast.

Hmmm, that could take a while. Maybe I wait until the next morning and then open, dump, aerate, and pitch then.

I have a 10 pack of mangrove jacks dry cider yeast if anyone is interested in any. $3.50/pack I will bring to Wilson’s on Thursday.
