It seems like a few years ago homebrewers were shut down at a festival in Des Moines. I think we may be flying under the radar at the events we do.

A potentially easier event (though still a lot of work) would be to put together the club competition part. It would be cool to have a statewide comp where you could compete with individual entries but also keep track and have club awards like at NHC. We could also invite brewmasters from the Iowa breweries to help judge too. The latest Basic Brewing Video episode covers this type of comp in Utah.

I like that Idea, if we did it on someone's land we could do seminars, judging, and all around beer talk depending on how many clubs are interested.

I wonder if we could do this event at the Long branch, in one of the bigger conference rooms. It would pretty much be just like the beer club meeting but more people, for a longer session, and probably on a Saturday with a hotel right there for everyone to crash in.

Has anyone thought about contacting the other beer clubs with any of these ideas? You would think something so simple shouldn't be so hard to do.

The Longbranch would be a good option. They have the space and seem to like the business.

Beer! It's not just for breakfast anymore!

I agree, if we could get it for the right price… which seems possible the long branch would not only be a great space, but seem very professional, so even if we don’t have a clue what were doing with the event, it might look like we do.. and we don’t have to worry about the weather.

Let's see what the Longbranch thinks of the idea. I think it would be a minimal fee per participate and a room fee. If we did it in the spring the isn't much going on.

I probably don’t have the time to solely take this on, but this is along the lines of what I do at work, we put together a million dollar event each year nationally so I have a few resources I can tap into.

Putting on an event like this would eventually need a committee with lots of time.
