October 13th, 2010 tech meeting
Randy, I worked up the cost per unit last night, it came out to 34.70/unit, and I still have to get some bolts, nuts, and curcuit board spacers which will knock the price to $35 or $36.
You posted you were interested if under $30, are you still interested in building one? If not I am going to offer it to Matt.

Matt, if your interested in coming and participating, we have an opening to build a stir plate if interested.Matt F wrote:How many stir plates do you have parts to make? I may get in on this meeting but I usually don't know if I am free until the day of the meeting. Even if I can't have a plate I may come to watch the build.
I'm being held hostage in a lab at the Radio Factory, so it's looking like I won't be able to make it. If someone else in the club wants the parts I signed up for to make one at the meeting, feel free to let them. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy to reimburse the club and put the stirplate together when I have time in the distant future.
CJ,
For folks who originally signed up but can't make the tech meeting, (like me) bring our kits to the regular club meeting. We can pay you and pick up the parts then. If there's enough interest, we might organize another kit building meeting in the near future for us to assemble them.

CJ, did I miss it or do you have a final cost? Also I assume you plan to to start at eight at your crib again?
Did we get the stir bars etc? I want to make sure we got all the resources together and you get all your investment back hopefully for parts.
Let me know if anyone is thinking of heading to 3b for dinner or something before the meeting.
CJ, thanks again for hookin us all up, I'm pumped about this stir plates, I've heard over and over again that they are key to yeast starters.
Hope everyone shows up, and my stir plate works...hahah.

I plan to attend the tech meeting and would like to buy and build a plate if there is enough parts. I will be there regardless and we can figure it out then if need be. See you tomorrow.
Do we need to bring anything else other than beer to make the plates?

I posted a rough estimate to the cost. I still have to purchase the mounting bolts and nuts which I was waiting on the fans to arrive to ensure that I got the right ones, to keep the vibration low.Mr T wrote:CJ, did I miss it or do you have a final cost? The total came out to $34.70 by my calculations. To keep this simple lets round it at $35.00.
We do not have the stir bars yet? Rob said he would bring them to the meeting. If not I can make a bulk order, as they are cheaper in bulk. However, this is not a required component to build the plate with. I do have a couple of stir bars we can use to test the systems with, in the event Rob does not show.
Matt you are on the list to build a plate and Randy's parts that he does not want have been reserved for you. See you at the meeting.Matt F wrote:I plan to attend the tech meeting and would like to buy and build a plate if there is enough parts. The only thing we need other then the parts is a drill (which I have a couple of cordless drills) and a couple of soldering irons which the 2 Jim's are providing for us to use.
Cool. I have a larger stir bar already for my 5L flask. Do you have a larger flask at your place Jeremy? If not, I could bring mine to give a large flask a test run on the stir plates.

I do have a 4 liter flask, however, just for information purposes, with the research I have been doing for this next tech meeting, you do not want large stir bars for large flasks. You want small stir bars (this is extremely counter intutive), the reason you want a small stir bar is large volume within the flask can not build momentum quick enough, which causes you to throw the bar. The small Stir bar will turn even though the liquid is not, which will cause the liquid to eventually catch up with the bar.Matt F wrote:Cool. I have a larger stir bar already for my 5L flask.
