Iowa Brewers Union IBU Open

Post by Mr T »

Yeah, I didn’t judge clint’s cider, but I did grab one of his, or his only one had drank the leftover from the comp, fairly clean, and crisp. The stouts was a huge category for them, so it was broken up into 3 sets of judges, so I didn’t actually originally judge Randy’s, but I was there for the mini best of show to advance him to take one of the medals or none at all out of the stouts.

By the time I got to El bait shop after the judging I wasn’t as excited to try so many brews.. but I did stop by Zombie Burger today and had me a Chuck Norris shot.

I haven't. You can see scores online, but I want the sheets.

I really want to see my sheets now. I got a fairly low score (19) on my Creme Brulee stout, which I thought was a pretty good beer. So I'm eager to see what they thougth was wrong with it.

Wow that is pretty harsh. I wonder if those bottles had something up, such as an infection. Scoring under 20 generally means it has very obvious flaws or is totally out of style. Did you enter it under Specialty Beers?

I got a 29 on my Scottish 80 shilling. My hope is that I just missed the style guidelines. It's a tasty beer, with no flaws I am noticing.

Bad people drink bad beer. You don't usually see an empty bottle of Rochefort tossed onto the side of the road

Yes, the creme brulee was in the Specialy category. I'm betting that it wasn't carbonated enough/gone flat during the bottling from the keg, as I had it on N2 and not CO2.

The Janet's Brown (Am Brown) got a 29 and the Firestone Walker Pale 31 (Wood Aged) got a 23. Again, I'm betting that the Firestone was a bit flat from the transfer.
