There will be more details to follow, but dates are being set:

Wort Pick-up, Friday, April 29 at 4 PM - earlier times can be arranged.

Judging/Pour Event, Sunday, June 26 - a special edition of the Cedar Rapids Beer Nuts Homebrew Happy Hour at Lion Bridge.

Those of you who are not available to pickup the wort at that time, but would like to participation, private message me and we'll see if arrangements can be made to secure your wort.

Thanks Daryl.

What state will the wort be in at pickup?

Pasteurized and unhopped.

The wort will require boiling to finish; and you can create your own hop profile and add augmentations as desired.

You know I was planning on doing a porter the brew after next anyway. (I am already am currently slowly making a massive starter of 1056 to do two brews.. I guess I'll plan on three now...) So can I live with 10 gallons of it, especially if I share a few gallons? Sure. I suppose I'm in. I can probably do the 29th, but if it end up on the 30th I have a conflict.

Are we going to get a grain bill for the wort? Knowing what is in it, mashing temps, all that fun stuff? There was a coffee porter that my wife actually liked on our trip to SC and honestly I'm thinking of going that direction on the porter. If the wort is compatible with the known clone for it (or close) it'd be a fun experiment.. especially if I can the the wife to actually drink some of it.

So, we have to guess at the additions? Interesting. Makes it more of a challenge I suppose. Or is this just a fermentation challenge? I was thinking along the lines of trying to make something different out of it instead of a variant of what he already sells... This could include something like steeping grains in theory...

You are basically getting a really good porter wort with no hops. Like a porter extract kit, but you do not have to add any water.

I forget if this has been discussed. Can you split the 10 gallons and enter two different beers, or is this a one entry only? If so can I split the batch and enter the one I like more?
