My large stir bar was a pain in the ass to learn to use with my 5L flask. Until I figured out how to control the flask-to-plate spacing and slowly bring it up to speed, it would throw the bar every time. Now it works perfectly every time (on the rare occasions that I use liquid yeast, that is).

You need to size your stirbar to the spacing and size of the magnets.

What time does the meeting start? 8?

Not saying you can not work with a larger stir bar. Some get more satisfaction out of a larger one when everything is fitted right. Its just the small ones cause less problems.

My stir bar is black, does color make a difference?? Some say it does.

Not saying you can not work with a larger stir bar. Some get more satisfaction out of a larger one when everything is fitted right. Its just the small ones cause less problems.

I can be there now. I got someone else to bring the kid home from hockey tonight. I will bring a cordless drill and a soldering iron. What bits will be necessary for the drill?

I have 2 cordless drills, each with a spare battery, so you probably won't need to bring a drill or bits.

I just bought the stir bar recommended for the flask.

I ordered a stir bar with my NB order today. I got a 50mm bar, hope that is the right size. My wife is going out tonight, so my stir plate will be completed tonight.

Its too bad Franklin you might not be using that stir bar for awhile..haha. Looking forward to completing mine, they look like they should be pretty good looking stir plates when there done, good work CJ… although the way I drilled mine… there could be some extra ventilation..dooh.

Well, for those who weren't in attendance last night, we worked on the stir plate DIY for the tech meeting.

This was a little more complicated than a basic stir plate. This DIY event involved actually building a voltage regulation curcuit that spans from 1.5v to 11.5v. Which kind of threw everyone for a loop including myself. Thank God Potsy was there to help all of us (THANKS POTSY!).

The end result was 4 successfull curcuits (1 completed unit), 2 units that did not work, and several did not get there units finished. I am unsure of how I am going to proceed with this whether we are going to do at Part Duex or complete these on a one-on-one basis.

Last night after everyone left I got pissed off and started and successfully built the curcuit and the rig in about 1 hour (Seriously, not kidding I got it to work). It was just a matter of getting familar with the curcuit is all. I think I got this down enough to get everyone going.

So, here is the question do you guys want to wait the 3 weeks until the next meeting to fix the units or you contact me, either post here or PM me and we can work out a time to sit down and get your box going. I promise it won't take long (about an hour).

There really is not a wrong size, That is what i have is 2 inch stir bars (insert length joke here).

BTW - I did pay you last night. You even gave me $5 for change which impressed me. I guess I should have gotten a receipt. I paid you while you were having a smoke in your brew room.
