I'd also be interested depending on day/time. Wednesday night is out due to the study group.

Hub City may soon be no more

Not sure how the rumor mill got started on this but spoke to the folks at hub and they have no plans at the moment to close. So good news on that end.

Will still look at a time to head up there but we have much more time to plan that out.

My wife's uncle was one of their distributors and is reporting this. Sounds like debt has caught up with the owners. Sad, really. I know their beers weren't stellar but it was an Iowa brewery so you'd like to see them succeed. Well, get your Hub City brew now before it's gone!
There ya have it - my wife's uncle's brother-in-law's cousin said it, so it must be true!

Glad to hear that it's just a bad rumor. Still up for a roadtrip though.

Yeah, the story was that they are pulling distribution way back but keeping the brewery open for now. I guess I wrote it wrong to start with but usually if you get into some financial trouble things may change. Travis is right, as of now the brewery is still open and serving. If there is interest in going to the brewery, you may want to swing by Angry Cedar Brewing in Waverly as well. Local brewery serving many local restaurants and they do bottle as well. Never been there or tried the beer but it's not that far west on hwy 3 into Waverly.

I hadn't heard of the place in Waverly. Good to know.

I always thought that if you want to get into brewing on the cheap, contract brewing at a brewery that overexpanded would be a good way to start.

I was up in Decorah this weekend. I'm loving Toppling Goliath. They had three IPAs on tap (one oaked), and the tasting room had a really friendly, laid back vibe. I could see spending a lot of time there if it were closer. The oaked IPA wasn't my favorite, it seemed too mocha-y, but mixed w/ one of their other IPAs was awfully tasty. The Biter IPA by itself was nice too. They have a big list of brews they make, but apparently they don't guarantee to have any particular ones on at any time. They don't serve food, other than pretzels, but you can bring your own if you wish. Come to think of it, 3B would be a lot better experience if you bring your own food.

Sounds like a northeast Iowa brewery tout in the works.
