I think the expectation for the June Happy Hour event (which may be an extended happy hour) is that enough beer is available be judged and poured through the event.

If splitting yields 3-3.5 gallons, I think that would work. So yeah, split once if you wish, and bring the better of the two.

Depending upon the number of participants, maybe we will allow you to bring both....that detail is still in the works.

Well not to be dickish, but I would know what is in the extract kit. It's fine, though. I'll have to actually drink one of his porters to try to guesstimate what I can do with it. I roast my own coffee so you know that will be one of them...

Sounds like a reasonably priced 2x the output alternative to a long brew day so, why not? ;) Maybe I can make a Brulosophy type experiment out of a split batch of the stuff? Nah...

20 of you have stated interest in participating.

We have 30 slots.....if you want to get in on the competition, and you have not already stated your intentions, please post here so that I know you want in.

In a few days, I will be opening this up to others (non-members) to try to fill the other 10 slots.

Thanks,
Daryl

I'm in. Good reason to make setting up the brewery at the new house happen sooner:)

Got to have priorities. Is that before or after the chainsaw? Grab a Stihl if you can.

It might be fun but I can't really deal with 10 gallons. And wow, 30 entries? That's a lot of beers to judge!

We are still set for the 29th pickup at 4 PM, correct? I have an early morning trip to Madison, WI the next day (4/30) and probably a boil and hop is going to have to happen Friday night....

As disorganized as I am .. I'm trying to set up an hourly schedule that day as 4 PM will also be an early out from work...

I will split a batch with you, if that works out better for you?

If there's an option for earlier pickup that day, it would be appreciated, I have to leave town mid-afternoon.

I have more details this week, with regard to picking up the wort.

LB is closed on Monday, and not sure I can reach them today. So it might be Tues/Wed at the earliest.

Will we be receiving 10 gallons of wort or enough to yield a 10 gal batch? Anyone have any idea what the OG is? I'm trying to plan out my hop additions.

UPDATE - to questions and some information from Lion Bridge.....

1) Each participant will receive 10 gallons of unhopped wort.

2) Disaster at Meux gravities: O.G. 1.054 to 1.055; F.G. is usually 1.015; ABV ~ 5.8%

3) An Eventbrite site will be set-up; I will post that URL as soon as it is available.

4) The raw wort will be boiled for about 15 mins and then chilled down at or below 90-degrees.

5) Drop off your containers on Thursday, April 28th; your containers will be filled on the 29th, and you can pick them up during Lion Bridge's business hours.

6) Quinton strongly recommends boiling the wort the same day; to avoid exposing/introducing any nastys into the wort. And he further recommends an additional 10 mins to your boil time, to ensure you blow off DMS.

7) There are plans for a T-shirt to commemorate this event; be sure to have your shirt size handy when you enroll. Shirts will be available for the Pour Event in June.
