NHC 2011!! Who is Step'in up!
Yes they are, however, on the BN app they are not, at least for the iPhone app they are not, as I bought the app and was very disappointed that it only has what he is currently streaming.brownbeard wrote:The archives are available as free podcasts in the itunes store.
I have heard that the android app is the same (does not have access to archives), however, I don't know first hand as I don't have an Android. So I was looking for confirmation for/against that.
ha ha, I aim to please borther, if you don't mind me asking what changed your mind from considering it to flat out not going?kjball wrote:The type and the source
Guess I will have to pick me up a little hot room mate while at the conference. There are always at least 4 females there out of the 2000 people.
Fair enough, I was just curious, wasn't sure if the airline told you to go take a flying leap and you could not get the ticket prices you were looking for.kjball wrote:Really the main reason is I'm going out there next week. If I wasn't going then, I would probably be already signed up. I think I'm going to take the money i save and buy something to upgrade my brewery.
Is there anyone planning on going that has not purchased air yet. I have a companion ticket coupon through US Air that would cut the price down to about $305 dollars per person (plus any tax crap), only catch is that I am currently planning on going out on Tuesday so that I can get settled in for the party?

Question for everyone - anyone have connections at Surly Brewing? I am doing a guys trip to MN April 8th and 9th with two guys that are getting interested in brewing and we are going to Northern Brewer and Midwest Supplies and Northern Brewer has Surly Kits we wanted to do a taste it before you buy it. Well the tour is full so I was hoping someone here had a connection either there or Summit. Anyone?

No connections at Surly but we called them and asked if we could get a tour. It was the Friday of NHC though. One of the employees shoes us around for a while and then Omar himself finished up the tour when he got in. Very cool guy. They have a nice tap room attached to the brewery along with gift shop. I imagine you could call ahead and get in the tap room if they have someone available. It is worth a shot.

I second what Matt said, both Omar and the rest of his gang were very cool and seemed glad to show us around. I would even go as far as to say if you just showed up, outside of the time the tour is there they would probably give you a show around. The place is fairly small which is probably the reason for the cap on the numbers allowed for a tour. But you may want to do like Matt said and just give them and call and tell them you are from out of town, but love their beer and would like to pop your heads in for a few minutes, I bet Omar or his crew would say come on by. Probably wouldn't hurt if you told them you were interested in getting a couple of items from the gift shop, which they have very nice merchandise and a really good price too.
As far as the Surly kits go, I've just brewed the Furious and it's in the secondary as we speak with the 8.5 oz of dry hops! Yes, I said 8.5 oz of dry hops! It's been in there a week so far, with another week to go before bottling. It should be ready to make an appearance at the April Club meeting!! (Not an April Fool's joke!)

Did your kit identify the "Furious Dry Hop Blend" as it is listed on their website? I am guessing it is the same ones used in the BYO clone but would love to know what those 8.5 oz. are. I am curious to try the Wyeast 1335 too. How has that yeast performed so far. I understand it is flocs well.

The actual foil pouch does give the breakdown:
5.0 oz Simcoe
2.5 oz Ahtanum
0.5 oz Warrior
0.5 oz Amarillo
No info on alpha acids for them.
As far as the 1335 goes. I didn't use a starter, just the smack pack. It was a little slow on the start, but picked up after a day and a half. After 2 days, went to the blowoff tube as a precaution. It just made it up to the top of the carboy, but not into the airlock/blowoff tube. After another couple of day, went back to the regular airlock. Was a bit slow on the finish. Let it go for 2 weeks. Initial was 1066 and the gravity at racking to secondary was 1014. We'll see how it finishes out. But man, you should smell the secondary - KILLER!! Can't wait for it to finish and bottle.

I still do not have a bunk mate for NHC, so I figured I would post one more time and see if there is anyone here who is going who does not have a place to crash.
If I do not hear anything by sunday I will be posting to TheBrewingNetwork for a room mate for NHC. Actually already posted to someone there looking for a room mate told him I was posting here and would let him know by Sunday.
