Great times!
Beautiful day, great company, yummy BBQ (and yes, they did give us food again!)
Folks really liked our beers - as usual! The RIS was very popular.
Look forward to doing it again next year.

Had a blast yesterday! and I think I ate so much bbq I had the meat sweats.. (man vs food reference)
Did anyone catch who won the peoples choice? I think last year they tallied it up after the event and it kind of went quietly under the radar, it might have been Derek that got ahold of the stats on an email of such.

Below is the email from John on the Brew-B-Q beer tasting voting, Beer Nuts beer took the top 3:
First, let me say how thrilled we were to have CRAZE and Beer Nuts at the Brew B Q. It really made the whole day better. Thanks for coming.
Now to the beers. While our system is not scientific and very informal here is how we came out.
The number one beer was Chocolate Obsession from Beer Nuts. (Women vote more than men do.) The number two beer was Murf's Juice. Below is the list of the top five vote getters:
1. Chocolate Obsession (Beer Nuts)
2. Murf's Juice (Beer Nuts)
3. Club Templeton Rye Stout (Beer Nuts)
4. Belgian Strong (CRAZE)
5. Speckled Heifer (CRAZE)
In case you are interested the top commercial beer was the Millstream Oktoberfest.
We look forward to having both groups with us next year. Perhaps we could do a more formal judging of the beer - similar to what we do for the food.
Just a thought.
Thanks again for helping make our event the best one yet.

Nice one kids, Wonder if the CRAZE crew will show again after us mopping the floor with them again, just kidding.
I would love to see a more formal judging next year if that happens. However, I always love to have peoples choice as that tells us what the people are into and liking (though with Murf being second, apparently they are not liking beer, lol).
Good time had by all, I think by next year, the RIS is going to Rock! This year it is still a little hot and for the event was undercarbonated (my bad, I will ensure next time that it is adequately carbonated).
Just a note, I will ensure the club RIS ahs the right carbonation for this Sunday, I have already been carbonating and shaking the cabonation into it. will test tonight if too high will let a little pressure of and let some of the pressure out of solution if not high enough will put more in.

Hey… I didn’t brew it for you guys.. I brew the Murf for the crowd.. and the crowd appreciates it.. if you ever open a brewery CJ, better get used to the fact your not brewing for your consumption
Sunday will be really interesting as Rippe broke off from CRAZE to start his own club so both CRAZE, Rippe (aka: club chump), and Beer Nuts will be stepping up Sunday.

Good thing is, if I ever open a brewery I will cater to a crowd, but that crowd will be beer enthusiests, not people who drink Murf juice, which is not even beer.
So yes I do realize that you have to cater to the tastes of the your TARGET audience, and I do promise if I ever open a brewery or brew-pub that is who I will cater too.

Are you stating that a beverage containing alcohol, hops, yeast, barley and water is not a beer? I just want to be clear what you call beer so I understand what were discussing here.

You both make valid points. Fact is either works. They wouldn't put Murf Juice on at Red's in North Liberty and most other places would sell the crap out of it. Fact is Red's is always packed and caters to a certain crowd. I like how Falling Rock in Denver does it, "No Crap on Tap!" That is the way I would roll.

First of all, Red's has the same no crap on tap motto, and they are pouring Fat Tire. Crap is in the eye of the beholder.
I have not had murf juice, but I cannot imagine it tastes as bad as founders KBS. Is a fermented malt beverage that tastes more like whiskey than beer any different than a fermeneted malt beverage that tastes more like fruit than beer? If KBS was on tap at Red's, people on this forum would be tripping their mothers to get in line for it.

You can't get with this with a bad hip - Matt
'T' if that is the case, I was wrong, didn't think it had barley in it, thought it was like the mountain dew thing where it is a feremented soda type beverage.
So my bad, if it is those things, it obviously is techically beer, and you know me, I love the fruity $hit in the summers (as long as it it real fruity)as long as it is calling a beer a beer, I like a good martini in the summer on the deck as well, just like calling things what they are.
Matt, who says 'T' and I haven't bumped uglies, eh?

Are we splitting hairs here Matt? haha.
Matt I might be reading into your comments wrong, but since you haven’t tried Murf Juice I’m assuming your not implying it taste like crap, and as CJ did not make the murf Juice he doesn’t know what’s in it to justify if its beer or not. Maybe I’m confused at what beer is, but if beer is what I stated below then murf juice is made just like any other beer it just happens to have more adjuncts than your typical beer.
I just seem to be confronted more and more by beer prejudice these days. I’m not offended if no one likes the murf juice, but don’t judge it by its color.
CJ I did misspoke when I said masses, I did brew for the TARGET audience for brewbq. I had two goals 1. bring something to the event people would like. 2. beat CRAZE in the competition. Mission accomplished.

Ok 'T', but in my defense I was using your own description of it.
"Murf Juice - a murfy blend of citrus and berry. "
Which does not really imply beer, if you stated "a beer, loaded to the hilt with fresh summer berries and citrus", or something to that effect, I would have said beer.
No Beer is just what you posted a combination of "malted barley, hops, water, and yeast", I am not a strictest that it can not have more then that, any adjuncts a person wants to use after that is up to them, that is what has made the US craft market what it is, however, I do believe that to be called beer, it does have to have those ingrediants.
Now are their beers that I do not like, "HELL YES", the american light lagers that you drink make me want to puke, however, are they beer, "yes".
So take that for what it is worth to you, I don't think your choice of the word "prejudice" is an accurate one. I don't know maybe it is, as most of that is assoicated with the drunk morons who can not even tell which brand is theirs. However, I do think that the "Beer enthusiest" is looking for a more rewarding flavor of beer, something that has a defined taste to it.
