Would be nice to sell tickets at tomorrows festival.

Tickets and posters came yesterday afternoon. Benz has 400 tickets as of this morning. The Club has the other 100.

We had talked about going to weekly meetings for the planning committee, so if that's the case then tonight would be the next meeting. Tony and I are out of town, so you'll need to meet without us if that's the case. No big deal, the only thing I have is that 3rd Base has offered to give us 5 gallons of Root Beer for the DD's.

I can meet tonight, if others are able. I don't have a whole lot to offer. I could drink a beer, and discuss minutia about the event.

I haven't been to a committee meeting yet and just want to bring up for discussion the legality of our festival. I am fairly comfortable with it, but that was a concern raised by our peers that will be serving at our festival. I did some online searching and there were a lot of different approaches to running these festivals in the realm of the law. It appears to be locally controlled. The good thing is I did not find articles where anybody got in trouble. The worst that happened is the festivals were shut down or told no homebrew next year. I have served homebrew in Amana at Festival of Iowa Beers for many years, Brews to You and Gourmet Too in Waterloo this year and Benz for several years. Seems like they do it so we can too. Seems like it is a gray area and as long as we play nice we are cool.

The legality of the event was the very first thing we discussed with Matt at Benz. He assures us it is no different than us pouring at the Benz Fest, or at Millstream. In the end, Benz is hosting the event, not the Beer Nuts. There does not seem to be a clear definition of the legality of this. But, I do trust Matt, as he has been hosting homebrew pouring for several years. And, He has a more inside understanding of law than I do (he's a lawyer, I believe). 3 of the 5 clubs who will be pouring were at Millstream this weekend, doing the same thing we will be doing in October.

I cannot tell you that it is absolutely legal. I can tell you we have been doing it for years. Our commercial sponsor, with more expertise in festival organization than an of the rest of us, has accepted responsibility, along with his insurance company.

If it is not legal, we will likely only get to do it once, so lets make it a good one. If it is, we set the expectations for the future.

As Tim said, it's all been discussed. I just want to emphasize a point Matt F made: if there are no problems at the event, it's doubtful the city will care. That's why we need everything to be well under control. Tim has said he'd like at least our club members to remain as sober as possible during the event, and have a party afterward. We also really need to enforce the 2oz pours. The latter is to keep general drunkenness down, and also helps support the fact that this is a tasting even, not a drunk fest. If things get rowdy or there's a big scene, then the likelihood of a repeat event becomes much lower.

We're charging people to enter the venue: they get a commemorative glass, a live band, a brewing presentation, food vendors, and free beer and soda samples. Officially, the event is to educate the public about the hobby of home brewing. Another point to make, for those wanting to know if the funds go to charity: the CR Beer Nuts are a non-profit organization. Funds from the event will be used to support club events. The big one is that we've been asked to organize a BJCP judging event to be held with the Linn County Fair next summer. That's going to be a major project and will require significant funds.

I will be at 3BB tomorrow (Tuesday) evening for the Festival Committee meeting and I will have tickets with me, if anyone wants to stop by and pick some up. I will also be at Lee's this Saturday to pick apples and make cider. Otherwise, your next opportunity will be the Club meeting on the 20th.
