I use a dry erase marker but they only work on the empty keg. Won't work once cold and show some moisture. My practice is I write on the the grog tag before I fill it. I try not to rub on the writing. Stays on OK once it has been on there a while. When I clean the keg after use I have to use a wet wash cloth to get the writing off.

Thanks for all the feedback! Sounds like dry erase is the way to go.

I was about to ask if anyone wanted to sell a few extra tags they they aren't going to use. I could use a couple more.

I've been using permanent marker on mine for name. I am going to check and see if acetone will remove it like with a regular dry-erase marker board. Seconding that crayons suck. Best thing I have found is masking tape in with permanent marker or pen, stuck over where you want to write.

If you're looking for a grease-pencil, you might try asking for a china pencil or china marker.

Sharpie ink comes off like it was never there with Lacquer Thinner... I use it for my swing top bottle caps and eventually I'll write on the kegs with it too... a paper towel with a bit of the smelly stuff takes it right off...

Acetone doesn't quite do it. I think the toulene and xylene in the stuff helps....

I tested it today on my tags, extra strength nail polish remover which contained acetone and benzophenone-3 took the Sharpie right off. The places where Sharpie was mixed with washable crayon required elbow grease also.

Did you notice any change in the surface of the Grog Tag after using these chemicals? Wondering about long-term effects??

I didn't see any issue. Time will tell. I'm guessing that the surface is similar to any other writable dry-eraseable plastic, and acetone / sharpie was what my highschool teachers used for things they wanted semi-permanent.

Also wonder about how much it would stain after 3 to 6 months before cleaning

I had it on for several months before I tested the nail polish remover yesterday.

hey Randy, I apparently had to much beer at the last meeting, and forgot to get with you to by some. Hopefully at next week's meeting?

Hooked up with the owner of GrogTag at conference. Dry erase markers and rubbing alcohol are OK. Regular crayons are for the non-laminated ones.

BTW - he's a really nice guy. You should have seen him in his Captain Grog Tag outfit on Club Night. His assistant was in a giant beer bottle suit. Looked hot as Hell! He was drinking water like a camel.
